Default Doing a high speed run

well after 2 months of daily driving, finally decided to take the Vette out to some places where i run my Bikes on TOP.
after a steady 80-100mph cruise for about 8 miles i took her up to 150 on 3 counts.
Ran out of SAFE if you want to call it that room.
My first opinion is that the car is alot more darty than my Trans Am, but there was at least a 15-20mph side wind.

Going to head out to a longer strip of road when it is a little nicer out but will have a buddy set up @ 2 miles out.

That is one good thing about Kansas alot of deserted roads with no intersecting road ways and lots of visibility.

Sounds like fun. Be safe! Sounds like a good idea to have your buddy scout for LEOs. If you're caught doing 150, forget about driving for quite some time.

Nice to have that kind of space out there. Just be careful when doing those high speed runs.

Same here. I had my vette up to 170mph, and there is no car I've ever come across that is as stable as the vette is. The vette feels about as stable at 170mph as does an F-body at 130mph, imho.
Sounds like fun, be careful.

i was up 145 once and i don't know what you are talking about when you say "stable". it didn't feel any different than driving it at 70-75mph. i want to do 180mph but i'm a big chicken... i don't think my vette will ever go there.

there are some lucky vettes out there that gets to perform its max potential and there are vettes don't get to perform not even close to what they are capable of. sometimes i wonder if i really deserve to drive a vette being such a chicken in high speed...

may b one day...

I ran my car up to 150 and the Goodyears were so loud that I had to get out of it as I didn't have any extra hands to put over my ears.

I was on a really nice Nevada road and still the car felt a little darty.

I drove a BMW 730I at 145 on the Autobahn and it felt much more stable.

In response to my wife's prodding, I did a quick run up to 150 mph this weekend for the first time. I must agree that the F1s are VERY loud at that speed. There was so much tire noise that I could barely hear my screaming wife! I will say this, be careful out there.

Default thats weird,

my 00 ws6 for some reason felt more stable at 150 than my vette does, maybe its because the interstate roads here are not that even and the ws6's ground clearance was alittle more and it handle the un even road better, stock to stock the ws6 with lid and cat back got up to 150 faster than my 01 vette with vr1 IMO maybe its just me. vettes not stock now and pulls alittle better but darn i miss my 00ws6 im tempted to go back then again thats just

I've had mine lowered with just a little rake, and it starts to squat down and hug the road between 115 and 120. It's very surprisingly stable at 150.

Oh. And Kumhos don't make noise like GY EMTs so I keep both hands on the wheel. Just seems like a good practice at that speed

I agree that they are very stable, but with a "15 - 20 MPH Crosswind", that's gotta be a squirrley ride. Sorry, but the link to CF member Hefner's 178 MPH blast on an airstrip has been removed from Comcast. That was beautiful.

Funny you post this knowing that you are an MP. I hope you are not a hypocrite and bust some PV2 for doing 5 over on post. If not, good on you.

Me, I was impressed with mine at 145.

The first time I took my car to 140 it scared the crap out of me. The car was very darty and I could fill the body lifting. I race shifter karts and have driven some stock cars,so I was not used to this. We took the car out to goliad at the texas mile last week.So new it was going to need some help. I put on the t1 bars, lower the front 1 inch and the back 3/4 inch, put as much caster in the front as possible. Toed the front out 1/32 inch, the rear in 1/16 inch. The car ran 185.8 with a 15 mph cross wind and was stable as a rock. I couldn't believe the difference. Come to texas next year and run the car all day long leagly, and safely.
