I followed these EXACT directions - and the install work like a charm. In fact I wound up ordering my complete mirror and the necessary connectors from Fichtner Chevrolet. I know that you have another thread out there asking about Fichtner.
If you follow these directions exactly, the inside mirror works just like the ones in the newer cars. The outside mirrors do not - as you are not chaning them in any way. If you have any further questions, feel free to PM me.

I know the mounting is different between the two. The mount for the mirror on my 97 had a little screw that held it in place and tended to come loose causing the mirror to vibrate. The mirror mount on the 03Z has a spring clip which is hard to get to.

I have seen blacksedan87's(Randy's) retro fit job. It is clean and looks stock. I think the only thing that wont work is the drivers side mirror, but the rear view should work just fine.
Just be careful that you dont break your windshild removing the existing mirror. The dealership broke my windshield trying to remove the mirror, and as you could imagine they replaced it.
