Default window valet--what am I missing?

I see posts and ads from vendors about the window valet. I don't have one. What am I missing? I know what it does, I just don't see why they're that great. But with mods I can have my mind changed easily!
Thanks.

To tell the truth - if you don't have a convertible, it's something you might be able to live without. But with a convertible, it's a really nice function to have - to be able to roll up the windows after the top is up.

I guess that's why it's called Top Down Technology.

I have a convertible, and if I have to climb back into the car in the garage where the clearances are tight - it's great and it's one of those easy to use features that makes the car that much more enjoyable!

To each his/her own.....

I thought the whole point was to roll down the window to put the top down. I found out that when the windows are up, lift the top up and click the tonneau release button, the windows roll down.

Sounds obvious but I found it by accident.

I wasn't too sure about it myself but spent the $ anyway. It has other functions but the only one I use is rolling the windows up and down. It is nice to be able to roll down/up the windows to latch/unlatch the vert top without crawling/leaning across the interior.

I'm not sure what coupe or hardtop owners would use it for except that it can make for some fun and games.

As others have said, it is a very needed convience for a vert. I am walking up to my car, I click the unlock button 3 times as I approach the passenger window and unlatch the roof. Then proceed to the drivers side, unlatch the roof on that side and stow the roof in the trunk. The roof can only be stowed and raised with the windows down. Now picture no windows valet. I approach car, unlock door, open passenger door, unlatch roof, go to drivers door, open that door, unlatch, open the cover, windows go down. Not too bad. Now picture arriving at home. Top is down so I have to put the top up and then stick the key back in ignition to roll the windows up. With window valet, I click lock button 3 times and walk away as the windows roll up without having to get back in the car. I also like the door unlock feature when the Ebrake is applied and allowing the radio to stay playing after the door is open and playing for a time you set. For a coupe, the only convience I see is rolling the windows down before getting to the car to let the heat out before you get there. Whew, that was a lot typing. So, if you have a vert, definitely get it. If not, spend your money somewhere else unless you have it to burn. hope that helps.

I hit unlock 3 times before I ever get to the car, windows go down and the radio comes on. reach in on passenger side flip latch and move to the drivers side to do the same.

Also watching people faces as the windows go down and the radio comes on before I get to the car.

Also if the car has been sitting in the sun can roll down the windows before I get into the car and let some of the heat out.

Not to be to repititious but the convenience you get by just clicking the remote 3 times to put the windows up after the top is put back up is worth it's weight in gold. Especially if you have a tight garage like myself and don't want to ding up the driver side door.

Definitely a must have option for vert owners!

I'm still lost. Both windows on a convertible roll down by themselves when the top is lifted automatically. What is the advantage of pre-rolling them down when it does it from the factory? (I'm talking about convertibles, not coupes)

I do agree however, when you've got a tight space, it definitely is easier to get in and out with the windows already down.

For me it is when walking up to the car. No need to open the doors to unlatch the top just use the Window Valet to roll the windows down and then undo the top and tuck it away. Similar for putting the top up, put it up latch it and roll up the windows with the Valet. No getting in putting the key in the ignition or anything. Can put top up and down without ever opening a door.

Another reason is to let somne hot air out of the interior before you get in it during the summer.

Nothing better on a hot summer day then to let the heat out of the black interior priot to getting in. It makes it alot easier to close that air tight hatch with the windows down and then 3 presses on the lock button and the windows go up.

For those of you who let other people drive your car, it also will let you recall the highest speed so you can see if someone is "getting on it" without you. Not to mention the "panic mode" and retained accessory power. I love mine, it's a shame that some of these features weren't standard but I'd buy it again!

This is one of those mods that if you don't have one you don't know what your missing. But the minute you get one suddenely it's a great gizmo. For me on my Z I like being able to drop both windows from 50 to 75 feet from the car and vent some of the hot summer heat before I have to get in it. Then the AC doesn't have to work hard cooling the cabin.

It's also nice when I'm squeezed in between cars, I can drop the drivers window whichs makes getting into the car much easier without having to fight the curved glass too.

Can you live w/o one, sure you can, but once you have one you'll love it.

I have noticed that when sitting in the drivers seat and letting the windows up or down there is enough drag/friction against the rubber sills that the up or down motion of the glass severely distorts the shape of the rubber. I believe that raising or lowering the windows with the doors closed puts excessive wear on your very expensive rubber mouldings. Since I am known to be cheap and I don't want to have to replace the rubber on my '02 Vert's windows, my wife and I attempt to only raise or lower the windows when the doors are opened just a little. This is not always possible but most of the time when I raise or lower the windows it is possible so that is just that much less wear and tear we are putting on those expensive mouldings. Try your windows the next time you get in your car and see what I mean. I have even rubbed silicon spray on the mouldings and it still distorts but not as bad.
