Do a used car search in www.cars.com This site will contain dealers and private owners, and will give you a pretty good idea of what the C-5s are going for based on year, style, mileage, etc. Once you get a feel for what you are looking for, you can do an advanced search to narrow down further and then sort by a variety of options.

From my experience it's always been best to avoid purchasing the first model yr of any car due to time being needed for the glitches to be worked out. Would this hold true for avoiding the first model yr C5 - 1997?
