Default Rear Differential Leak

I own a 01 and just read in a thread something mentioned about leakage, I know about the oil consumption issues but this is the first time this has come to my attention. Any thoughts or info would be appreciated.

It seems the drivers side differential cover o-ring does not seal very well. Pretty common problem. There is a new re-designed o-ring that suppose to be the cure. The guy at the chevy house that did mine (at 5000 miles) used silicone sealant. No more leaks.

There are several TSBs on the leak. They have trried sevral attempts at fixing the lastest being a new seal and sealant.

Very common even if you do not see drippings on your garage floor. Pays to do an underneath inspection every several months.

Yep. Just had mine done. The fluid was not hitting the floor yet. Just crud all over the back of the suspension parts. I found it last oil change. They used the new seal. I went to look at it yesterday and will pick it up today.

Mine had to be replaced at about 8k miles. No big deal, the General fixed it for free.
