Default Question for Amsoil Users

I had the oil changed on my brand new Z06 at approx. 1,000 miles while it was in the shop having some mods installed. The shop, a Corvette specialty shop, swears by Amsoil. I have read nothing but good things about it, my question is the type and wieght of oil they used.
What do most of you use in your C5's?

They used the 100% synhetic 10W-30 wieght. It has an orange/yellow label and says "Turbo Formulated". The link below shows you the product, ATM-QT

I have almost 5,000 miles on the Z now, with no problems at all. I was just curious, since the OEM wieght is 5W-30 Mobil 1.

Let me know your thoughts please. Thanks.

In run the same oil in my C5. It meets all the requirements. So does their 0w-30 and 5w-30. I actually run Amsoil in evrything I own. 2003 Tahoe,99 Mazda Truck,Three motocross bikes lawnmowers etc. It is a great oil.

I don't use Amsoil. I use Mobil 1. But you never should put in a heavier weight oil than is recomended by the factory. You should use their 0w-30 or 5w30. The only time to use a heavier oil would be for a racing engine or older high mileage engine.

I think I would ask for the 5w30 for the winter months. 10w30 is fine for the rest of the year. Of corse if shes parked all winter then your fine.
By the way... I use 10w30 year round here in GA.

Right off of the Amsoil site.........You will be fine.
Both have the same protection at operating temperatures.
Next time just put in the ASL-5w30 and you will be a happy camper.

AMSOIL 10W-30 remains fluid at temperatures as low as -54°F (-48°C) so it permits easy engine cranking for fast starts.
Four Ball Wear Test (ASTM D-4172 B: 40 kg, 75°C, 1200 rpm, 1 hour, Scar in mm) 0.35

I ran the Amsoil oil for about 3 years in my Yukon. The manufacturer says to change oil every 36000 miles. It may be good but I have a problem with going that long. I used to change it every 10000 and after 120000 miles, the engine is perfectly clean under the valve covers and even after 10000 miles, it's not low a drop.... doesn't smoke, nothing.

It's only been the last year that I changed to Mobil 1. Now I change the oil every 5K miles.

In retrospect, yes the oil was expensive but if you weighed in that you weren't changing it every 3-5K miles, it was really no more or less expensive than using Mobil 1.

I just quit using it because of availability.
