Can't shift into 1st, 3rd,5th or reverse. Clutch feels normal.
I will be taking it apart tomorrow after work. My guess is the stop screws need adusting. Anybody else experience this with Hurst shifter?
Hurst shift stop screw instructions say to turn them in until they touch, then back off a quarter turn. I've read before that our MN6 uses internal stops and that the Hurst stops aren't needed. You should be able to catch one of those gears. Puzzling...
Yes our trans has internal stops but some have suggested the trans stops can wear with constant hard shifting, what the Hurst was designed for (the reason Hurst included stops).
I am thinking it is the stops on the shifter, when I installed it in July no adjustment was needed. Maybe just became loose with time. I haven't been shifting hard or power shifting so I wouldn't think the internal stops would be bad with 36K miles.
Thanks for the replies.
Pull the stop screws out unless you are slamming it at the track every weekend. The internal stops in the T56 have been validated by GM for hundreds of power shifts during C5 development.
I lost 1,3,5 and R driving down the road to a duno day shortly after installing my Husrt because the front setscrew came loose and worked it's way towards the shifter, keeping it from moving foward far enough to engage those gears. I fixed it in the tuner's parking lot by pulling the console and tossing the setscrews. No problems in the 3 years since.
Locktite would have solved my problem! The nut had fallen off the front stop, allowing the stop to move with vibration. I thought the stops would have been good if no adjustment was needed.
Thank you for your help.
Have to pull the console and the instrument panel trim to access the four 10mm flange nuts that hold the rubber isolator.
