I have to change the oil today in the Vette. Of course I use Mobil 1 5W-30. But I have a question, what is the BEST oil filter to use? Last night I bought a "FRAM" "Tough Guard" TG3506-Which is the model number the book listed.

What kind of oil filter do you use? Does it really matter?

Thanks, does it matter which brand oil filter you use as long as it is for a Corvette?

AC-Delco UPF-44 was long held up as the best filter for the LS1/6. In fact, when rumors of it's discontinuation were circulated, there was a huge uproar here with a frantic email protest campaign ensuing. Many of us bought a supply of those filters to keep in stock at home once they became unavailable. Shortly after this feeding frenzy, it was announced that continuation of production of the UPF-44 was the response to the outcry.

Who knows? I still have about 6 of them on my shelf.

So AC-Delco is the best oil filter in your opinion? Sounds like alot of people like them. Where could I find a AC Delco?

Last time I changed mine, I couldn't find any AC Delcos so I put in a Mobil 1 filter.

You can use the stock AC-Delco PF-46 that is most likely on the shelf at the parts store. Doubt the UPF-44 will be. Probably have to order a 6-pack of those. The K&N above is popular as is the Mobil 1 equivalent.

I don't know if the Mobil is any better or worse than any other filter out there. I got the Mobil because I couldn't find the AC Delco and because I was putting in Mobil 1 oil - no other reasons than those. I can tell you what I don't like about is the price - around $10-12 if I remember right.

I use the same filter. Works just fine, especially if you change it when recommended. Many use the AC UPF-44 or PF 46 filter. Others use much more expensive ones like Mobil 1.

I use the Baldwin B31 but if you are in a jam just go to a NAPA store, their filters are Wix which are quite good. Napa #FIL 1042
Not a big fan of Fram.

I use the Mobil 1 filter. At 2500 miles and showing 60% on the DIC, the oil still has some transparency. I'd say somewhere between 40% to 60% of how transparent the oil is new to when it turns black.

Default do you have the right oil ??

Have read a lot of articles and would suggest the 10-50W.. Appears that the only reason for the 5 is for 'political' reasons.

Will try to find the thread that discusses this ..

Any others remember this ??

I use Wix from Napa. I once put a Fram on her, cause that's what I've always used, (without any problems), and then read a post about problems with Fram, so I did a little research on this forum, and bought a Wix and installed it right after doing the oil change. Kind of paranoid, eh? I'll stick with Wix though, cause they're more expensive so they must be better than Fram, right?

Probably not surprisingly, I use the AMSOIL SDF-32.
Note the test info on the bottom of the page:
AMSOIL SDF Oil Filters

But, independent tests also show the AMSOIL filters to be very very good.
http://www.oilfilterstudy.com/amsoil-sdf24.htm

If you become an AMSOIL preferred customer for $10, you can buy these filters for about 20% under retail. To sign up, all it takes is one phone call to 1-800-777-7094. Please give them reference number 1206638.

Or you can use this link:
AMSOIL Preferred Customer Program
Again, please put 1206638 in the customer number block.

Thanks.
