Fluids do not compress as gasses will. Water gets in the combustion chamber and somethings got to give...usually a rod through the side of the block.
Exactly what happened to mine! I have a 2000 hardtop and had a Z06 engine installed (+ other go fast stuff) at A&A. Take my advice and let someone other than the dealer do it, unless of course you have used the dealer before and trust them. I had nothing but bad things happen at the dealership. My insurance paid for my new engine minus a betterment (spelling?) charge for a new engine. Remember, you have the choice of where you want the work done, not the insurance company.
Here is the update.... Inurance did pay for most of it and Andy is putting in the motor as we speak. I ended up buying headers for it and Andy worked his magic on the engine. I didnt end up going with the ls6 but we got a better cam and heads, machined block, new clutch, dyno tune and forged pistons.
ok..new question... What are the benefits of forged pistons? is it that they are stronger and lighter?
