I've seen numerous posts about aftermarket shifter rattle...but is it normal to have some rattle with the totally stock shifter? (Note: I still get rattle with the top plastic insert/logo removed.
I have an '04 with 3600 mi. that has some rattle at high rpm's. Is it worth going to the dealer with this problem?
Dave, this is a pretty standard complaint especially with short shift kits. There have been several links about this. I think the concensus is to get one of the solid metal or slimilar shift ***** and they have a tendency to absorb the noise quite a bit. The stock **** is pretty lightweight and does little or nothing to absorb the noise.
Thanks for the reply...I've read all the threads regarding rattle, and as you stated, most are related to short throw kits. My concern is that my set up is totally stock and I am getting some noise..I can live with it, but I don't want to make the problem worse, particularly if it's something that should be addressed. I am going to try a different shift **** to see if it helps.
Update...Got my MGW shift **** this morning..Intalled it during lunch. Shifter is much quieter now..Also, I am amazed at the difference in "feel" of this **** vs. the stock one..very nice.
There is still some noise, but I'm not going to stress over it.
