yes, you are right. simply trying to point out that other people are fast too. there a honda civic in town I would not run. there is always someone faster. I myself really like the vette and will keep it for a long time regardless of whatever project I start in the future.

Honda Civic now wait a minute. I thought we were discussing the merits of fine American Muscle cars. Nothing personal, but leave the rice on the ricer forums because they surley are pieces of crap compared to Zo6's and Cobra's. Remember, Baseball, Apple Pie, Moms and HotRods (American Muscle Cars), I don't remember were Honda Civics fit in. Robert

If there is one thing that I wish people would stop doing on this forum is comparing modified cars to stock cars. Almost any car can be modified extensively enough to beat any given stock car, at least in straight line acceleration. For example, a Honda Civic with enough boost and a lot of other expensive stuff can produce 800 HP, but for how long? It is right on the hairy edge of blowing every time you run it and has no low end.

For the record, a stock Mustang Cobra has 390 HP and weighs 3600 pounds. A stock Z06 has 405 HP and weighs 3100 pounds. It does not take a genius to see which car has the higher power-to-weight ratio (acceleration) and the better aerodynamics (top end). If the Z06 driver was absolutely terrible and the Cobra driver was very good, the Cobra might have some initial advantage but would eventually be overtaken by power-to-weight ratio and aerodynamics. It is simple numbers.

I am not interested in hearing about how something modified is faster than something stock. It is meaningless.

Default FOODCHAIN - Indigestion

Stock for stock - anyone with a copy of Car-&-Driver can benchrace out the results. Big Deal.

Dollar for Dollar - Hmmm $46K Z06 vs $35K Cobra. Not sure what the argument is... except that my calculator shows the cobra to be cheaper leaving a chunk of change for mods to go around corners or go fast straight or both.

Foodchain - Every forum thinks their car is the "top of the food chain".

Don't get me wrong I love my Z06.... but I don't believe I'm at the top of the foodchain. Anyone who's spent anytime in the street racing scene or at the track knows there is always some little sleeper out there with your name on it. And I just love to see those cars come out of the woodwork and trounce the benchracers

I just sold my 347 stoked 90 Mustang Coupe that is street legal w/smog/AC/accy's..... with a total build cost including car of about $10K it ran 11's on street tires on motor and was a total sleeper. It's prowling the streets of Galveston these days turning out Vipers and Z06's on a regular basis.

Point is in the real-world there's always something faster, and I wouldn't get too caught up in the whole foodchain bit.

My 2 cents.

Maybe I'm missing something , I never heard him say the Mustang was better in all ways. He just stated not to underestimate the blown Fords. Chill!

Statements like this show your ignorance of the American racing scene. OilfieldGuy pretty much summed it up. Way too many people on all types of car forums (and race forums for that matter) are keyboard/magazine article racers. Thinking your car will run high 11s and actually doing it can be worlds apart. I've seen supposedly faster cars and their drivers get a new one busted out by a supposedly slower vehicle. In my opinion, there's way too many supposedly fast guys out there thumping their chests because of the car they drive.
BTW, I had a Mustang 4.6 2v GT (the early one) that would hand my stock '02 ZO6 it's *** in any type of straightline race. If you're going to go out on the street thinking your "top of the food chain", you better be ready for a rude awakening.

Yea, those rude awankings do happen. But, I'll tell you what they are certainly far and few in my Z06. And I'm not talking out of my arz, have been involved in drag racing since early sixties when my father was running b/altered class. Had a bracket Henry-J that would hand most their walking papers. Belonged to The Lakewood Street Racers in the '70's running a '56 wheel standing Shorty wagon. Many '57 chevys N2O small blocks that wern't to slow, big block chevelles and on and on and of course Mustangs. However, none can compare to overall performance of a Z06. Looking to put mine in the 10'sand still get 26mpg driving to work. Amerkin, if that stang was so wonderfull, why on earth would you get a Z06 that according to you would get it's arz handed to it. Everytime I take the Z out someone revs on me, Ford lighting a couple days ago, do I need to explain the results. When you have driving/racing time it's for sure in your favour when someone revs on you. I hope you guys realize it's nothing personal, just passion for the Corvette. Yes there are some non chevys that are fast, I will agree. Robert

Robert, I also don't mean to offend, and your obviously not a keyboard racer. I hear a lot of words from know -it-alls who actually know nothing about driving a car quickly, so if anything I was fishing for a bite if you know what I mean. The ZO6 is, IMO, peerless off the showroom; definitely for the money, the best all-around car. BUT as you well know, there are cars roaming the streets set for straightline speed that can seriously embarrass a stock ZO6, and most are American iron. Some are imports but those are VERY few and far between (there is a 10.87 street driven Civic in Bakersfield). Anywayyyy, about my Mustang--it continually broke. SOoo, I bought a car almost as fast totally stock (in fact it ran 12.35@114 OEM completely, and my Mustang ran 12.4@118.5). On the street, the 'Stang with Nitto DRs would spank the ZO6 handily. The Mustang was heavily modified. The ZO6 with small mods could stay close. Don't get me wrong, I don't miss the Mustang and am very happy with the Vette (especially now with 490 at the wheels ).

I love my Z06. I just got bent out of shape by someone who can't read claiming that I don't own a Z and that I was ignorant on the situation. so **** on you and to every one else.

Everybody likes to claim their car is better. You'll only see what really happens when both meet side by side.

Huckleberrydude, chill out, we are talking about inanimate objects, not questioning your character. Don't know you, or even your name. I tried to make sure you knew it wasn't a personal attack, just a debate on the merits of stangs vs Z06's. If I really offended you, I'm sorry, Robert.

amerkin, good insight and agree with your last post.
