Default Please help with mirror question

Just noticed my driver side mirror is very loose and will not stay in place. The mirror housing sits on another piece I'll call the base that is attached to the door. My question is if the mirror housing seperates from the "base", is it shot or is it repairable? If repairable, how? If shot, does anyone know of someone who might be parting a vette out and would have one for sale? I need a black one. Thanks for any help.

Before you going replacing all that. Take the door panel off and look for the nuts underneath that attach the mirror. Inside that housing (mirror) there should be another nut attaching the outside part of the mirror to the base.

When we paint cars, we take the mirrors off and completely dissassemble them, 99% of them come apart.

The base is just bolted to the mirror. It sounds like the nut in the mirror housing has come loose. You don't even have to take the door panel off to fix that but here's the bad news: In order to tighten the mirror to the base, you'll have to remove the mirror(glass). The glass snaps into little plastic sockets and requires some force to pull it off and snap it back on again. If you don't know how to do this you can easily break the glass. Once the glass is off it's easy to tighten but you risk breaking the glass and if you have the heated mirror, it could be expensive to replace. If you aren't familiar with this procedure, I'd see if a dealer will do it for you for a half hour labor.
