My battery died and had it jumped. When I started the car a message came on "service column lock". I am still able to drive the car with no problems but the message keeps coming on when I start the car. What's going on? I did buy the car used..chances of any devices being installed to correct the column lock problem? Thanks for the feedback.
pull fuse #25 from the passengers side footwell then plug it back in.
that cleared up the problem on my car
then... order a Column Lock Bypass
The message gets displayed when a bit gets set in the BCM memory, and the bit gets set when there's an occurence of a mismatch between the lock's expected state and actual state. This bit will eventually be cleared after something like 25 or 50 starts, but pulling the fuse will reset it.
The bit likely got set during the jump because of voltage fluctuations affecting the lock's state that confused the BCM.
Why did you need a JUMP???? Sounds like your battery is about had it or your battery connections are not tight. The BCM does not like LOW Voltage. Neither does any of the other micro processors in the car. The BCM controles the CL motor and circuitry. If there was a mis-match as stated above then it will set the code and display the message.
Check your DIC and look for codes. I would be willing to bet that there are codes set on the LDCM, RDCM and BCM. If the battery voltage drops LOW the modules drop off line and set codes. Some will be "NO Comms" codes.
Clear the codes and do the fuse reset procedure as stated above.
Have your battery tested and make sure it is fully charged and at full CCA capacity.
Have a optima red top battery and just had my V1 radar hardwired. The vette is just a weekend warrior and I had forgotten to turn off the radar. The car was not started to a 7days and the radar drained the battery. No codes are coming up just the "service column lock" message. Going to try the advice given. Hope it works I miss the "CORVETTE" greeting.

You can avoid this problem by wiring your V1 to a switched accessory power lead instead of the constant power lead. There are both switched and constant leads in the passenger footwell.
