hey guys, i am new here, been surfing the board for almost a month now, just decided to register a couple of days ago. i plan on buying a vette within the next month or so. i still haven't decided on which one i want, Z, FRC, or a coupe. i guess the price will reflect which one i buy. i plan on buying a 2001+, except for the FRC's.
could you all help me out, is there anything i should look out for other than the oil consuption on the 2001. is there any other thing i should look for or worry about?
thanks for your help, this has to be on of the most knowledgable board i have ever been on.
I bought a used 2002 C5 coupe. When i went to drop it i found a big gash on bottom floor board. I did not lift car up to check bottom when i bought it. My suggestion is make sure you look underneath before u buy. I have since traded it in for a 2004. Good luck.

Welcome from NY! I'd say the '01 ring problem is the only serious problem to look out for. No matter what you get, you'll be a happy camper. FWIW- Ask here if you find something out of state. There are many members that will check out a car for you before you fly out. The chance of finding that perfect car will be better if you do a wide search. I drove 2 states away and got a deal of a lifetime.
Just check the car out the very best you can from top to bottom. If you can run a CARFAX on the vehicle to check for anything major and if you can know the previous owners habits with the car.
Other than that just enjoy both the ride and the many new friends you will have here!
i got the vette fever when i saw my buddies 97 c5, who just happens to own LS1motorsports and is a vendor on here . i feel in love with his vette and have ever since loved them, but never had the funds to buy one. my step dad had a 1981 vette with all the options and only had 17,000 miles on it. i wanted to buy it but he sold it to his buddy for 7 grand. i could have killed him when i found out how much he sold it for. but no i am going to be coming into some funds to buy one due to the death of my grandma. i would rather have her than the money, but i cannot have her back.
i love the power and handling of the z06 but i don't think i want to pay that much for a car yet, but i guess i will have to go and drive each one, if i can find a FRC. so hopefully i will be posting pics of the new baby by the end of the month

Welcome to the forum. My recommendation would be to have a carfax run on the car and have it checked over by a mechanic that knows Vettes, if you have one close by. Check for rear differential leaks, as they seem to be common on the C5. Good luck finding the car you want.
These are good buying tips but I think you may also be talking about what style of vette you want. coupe, FRC, or Z06. I have a coupe because I liked the idea of taking the top off, although I have discovered that I rarely do this. My brother has a FRC and a Z06 because he wanted the higher performance and also wanted the MN6. the FRC is a little lighter than a coupe and has Z51 as standard suspension. Of course you know the Z06 is the highest performance C5. Of course the coupe also comes with the MN6, I chose the A4 because I am an avid bracket drag racer and I like the consistancy of the A4's ETs. These are just a few things that I looked at when I bought mine. I bought it new so I pretty much just looked until I found exactly what I wanted. Good luck on finding one my brother has his 99 FRC for sale if you are interested.

well, i like the coupe looks from the front, the rear glass just matches the boldy lines perfect. i like the FRC cause it has the handling suspension and weighs less, plus i like the look of the hard top. i want the zo6 due to the performance of them, but i could have that easily with the FRC. so right now i am looking into a FRC that has the HUD and a couple of more options. i know they are few and far between but i like the hud. the zo6 is probably out of what i want to spend on the car.
send me the info on your brothers car and i will take a look at it.
aslo can anybody tell me what options didn't come on the FRC that the coupe and the zo6 have.
all info appreciated, this is a big decision for me and the meaning behind it means alot.
