New member and new Corvette owner. This Forum is a great source of information. Is the UPF 44 the best oil filter for the C5 LS1? I thought that I read that on the Forum but I can't find it again. Thanks to all of you that make this the great site that it is. I know it is probably old info for most of you but I need an opinion. Thanks.

There are probably better filters out there, but I just use the PF-46 (used to be the PF-44). It came from the factory with one of these, so it should be fine. I change mine often enough that hopefully the oil doesn't get that dirty.
I'm pretty sure you can order them from Ken Fitchner (chevy dealer, forum vendor, and great all round guy). Contact him or his parts department - they'll ship it same or next day.
We strongly recommend and have the AC Delco Ultraguard Gold UPF44 filter. It is a direct replacement for the PF44 and the PF46 filter which is actually replacing the PF44 filter as a base filter. The UPF 44 filter has all synthetic media and has a 98% single pass filtration efficiency down to 8 microns. A standard oil filter has about 75% single pass filtration down to 25 microns. The UPF 44 also has a teflon coated seal; which makes them much easier to get off if someone overtightens them.
We have the filters available at wholesale prices for single or bulk purchases. If you have any questions or wish to order give us a call at 406-628-4618 or email us at parts@fichtnerchevrolet.com

I use the K&N filter. Just purchased it today as a matter of fact.
I prefer this filter also, and have the oil analysis results to prove that it works. It outflows the Ultraguard filter, so if you drive at full throttle a lot, the K&N will be the better choice.

Thanks to all for the information. The knowledge base on this forum is incredible.
If you do a search there's a comparison of filters that shows flow rates,Baldwin was one of the best and K&N ran a close second, the AC Delco filters were very restrictive, since changing over to K&N and royal purple 5W30 oil piston slap has vanished,my .02
I use the PF46 or the PF59 (59 not recommended for lowered cars) on my cars... change the oil every 3000k, still trouble free, even though I drive "very aggresively". The PF59 will give you another 1/4 quart of oil capacity.

Get the UPF44 if you want a good quality performance filter for a reasonable price. The Mobil-1 filter is very similar, but a lot more expensive. If you buy a couple from Bob, even with shipping it's a good deal.

Bob's price is VERY competitive with LESSER filters, especially when purchased in case lots. I have been able to procure them through Xtreme Motorsports when they've changed my oil.
I've been using the UPF44 exclusively - and I don't think you can wrong with that as your choice.
Me, I'd go with the K&N HP 1007. You can also get a longer/larger version (HP2003 I think - not 100%), some people worry about clearance though on a lowered vette but it works fine on mine lowered on stock bolts, YMMV. After doing much reading on another ls1 forum, I use Made in Germany Castrol 0w-30 and the K&N filter.
