I have the shorty chrome also and have no problems with reception..... it's the radio in the car that sucks. I think I've only had it on four times in three years. There is NO base in the system.
WHere did you guys get this shiny rubber plug you speak of? And, when you say you took it off, did you just unscrew the antenna and take it off or take the whole antenna assembly out of the fender and then plug it?
I am thinking of making this change and was wondering how many have made it and have had to switch back due to poor radio reception?

RICH, I MADE THE SWITCH A THREE WEEKS AGO AND NO PROBLEM. I HAVE A XM SAT. RADIO INSTALLED AND THAT PUPPY WORKS GREAT AND REALLY LOOKS SHARP GO FOR IT BUT OF COURSE KEEP THE OLD ATENNA JUST IN CASE YOU DON'T LIKE THE RECEPTION
