Default Shorty Antenna

I am thinking of making this change and was wondering how many have made it and have had to switch back due to poor radio reception?

Thanks in advance,
Richard

I cut mine to about 10 inches or so, no problems with reception.

Hi LemansZ06 -

I cut mine two years ago - not intending to go back to the "whip".

I did not notice any reception diference at all. I cut mine to 9".

best regards -

I installed a Black Shorty Antenna and it works as good or better than the stock unit.

I bought a black shorty antenna from corvette garage. I think it looks a hundred times better then stock. It has perfect shape, just tall enough and the added bonus is that it is a little thicker. The stock one looks cheap. I have had no problems with reception. It only cost 19 dollars, it is on sale. I would do it!

There was a thread somewhere here or the z06vette forum.

It's easy..

Unscrew, put in vise, unscrew ball, cut off whatever, drill hole in ball to fit fatter antena, glue if you like, light sand, touch up paint, reinstall. Should take about 15-20 mins.

I cut off about 12 inches. No radio problems.

I did mine at 9", except I ground the end of the antenna down enough to get the ball on and didn't have to repaint.

I guess I'm the odd one out. I bought a short (believe to be a stock cut one) one and the reception sucked. I switched back.

I guess I'm different, I like the fixed antenna.

The fixed antenna on my '04 Z is similar to my '72 Stingray except it is on the rear drivers side. I think that's cool.

I've tried four different antennas, I had the stock, a shorter version of the stock and two custom made ones.

The stock antenna looks like the antenna you'll see on an M1A3 commander tank.
The cut version of the stock antenna looked too thin for the big black support on the quarter panel.
The 3rd one I made and it looked like a cell phone antenna.
The 4th one I made too, looks right on, just like the S2000 stock European looking antenna, except shorter, about half the size (and free!)

Looks like the one in this pic:
http://catacus.com/~catz/picz/2000s2000/aae.jpg

If I remember, I'll take some pics of the antenna this afternoon.

It depends on your area as to how your reception will turn out. If you live in the sticks, then the shorty will cause some issues with reception, but I have never had any issues with my 8" shorty I got from 21st Century.

Richard:

I swapped mine last month for the shorty and the reception and quality appear the same. It looks much nicer as it matches the lines and height of the car better. I saved my old one so I can return it to "stock" when I sell it. I believe I got it from Mid America (or Corvette Central I actually forget. I know it was not Ecklers since they were like $29 or something). I paid around $18.
