If you do a search you'll probably find more than you want to hear. Short answer is that all years are effected but their fix is to disable the CL on the A4. But just a reprogram for the 6 speed. Which leaves the 6 speed with a CL that will fail sometime in the future. They won't disable the CL for the 6 speed because the shift doesn't lock like the A4's auto shifter does. That I think covers it. Others will probably chime in with their take on the subject.

Just did a search over in the "Tech" section and all the discussion (from '04) is about 2000 models and back ('97-'00 models).
Was just hoping that my new '04 may be exempt from this issue

If it's an automatic and if you can get into the car and the column is not lock in position. Then the fix has been done. But you should have received the recall notice by now if they thought if affects you. A friend of mine has an '04 A4 and he received it from the dealer with no CL that was operational. So they started correcting it at the plant before they did the last recall on it. So if your column doesn't lock I would think your good to go.
