Default Transporting C5s - tie down strategies

A member of our local club plans to retire soon, and plans on spending a lot of time RVing around, and will be trailering his C5 in an enclosed trailer as their run around vehicle - gotta love his plans!!!

Anyway he told me that he was having trouble finding tie down straps that had hooks small enough to fit into the slots underneath. I know there are folks on the forum that must have some insight on what he needs - thoughts or suggestions?

Well, ontop of using the slots under the car, the lady driving the tow truck also had soem straps wtih special spots for the wheels, and tightened down the straps which were enclosing the tires.

there are straps which you place on the tire and that straps the car down. I beleive you use those in conjunction with a tiedown on the rear suspension (this is used as a backup)

Strapping the A-arms long term will cause wear on the A-arm bushings and cause allignment problems.. Maybe it would be best for your friend to have tow hooks welded to the underside of the car and then use ratchet type straps?

Essentially exactly what I use. I hook them to the trailer in two X's like this:
X
X
The tie down behind the LF wheel goes forward under the car to the RF of the trailer. The tie down in front of the LR wheels goes aft to the RR corner of the trailer. Opposite on the other side.

Hooking to the a-arms won't hurt a thing , but the straps over the tires set up works great.

Straps over tires is what they used to transport mine(closed container carrier) from Kerbecks in New Jersey to me here in Virginia...worked great...

I posted a thread asking the same question a couple of weeks ago.
I ended up using Subdrivers and a couple others suggestions
on using T-Hooks in the factory tie down slots under the car and crossing the straps in an X configuration to the front & back of trailer.
Works great and don't have to worry about any bushing or allignment problems over an extended period of time hauling car.

Here's a link where I bought my straps from. Great price and good selection of colors. They were delivered to my door in 3 days!

IMHO use the t-hooks pictured above and the 5000 lbs straps in the X pattern is the safest and strongest way to secure your baby to the trailer.

THis past March I hauled my mistress from NC to Cali (4000 miles when done) using the T hooks everyone has mentioned and criss crossing my tie downs. On two occassions I was forced to lock up the brakes and the car never moved a bit on the trailer. NOw the Avy and trailer did a little sliding. Whew that is scarry. Good luck.

I think you are getting good advice from the members who actually trailer a vette long distances. I have found that the T-hooks are a great setup, although tough to install on an enclosed trailer. Best of luck to you on whatever you decide.
