the weather here in new jersey is fickle. the spring has been warmer than the summers lately and hasnt really gotten hot like i remember in the olden days. of course, we do have winters and get some occasional snow. i would keep it in a garage like my current coupe and drive occasionally as it wouldnt be my daily ride.
is there such a thing for a vette that you could put on a hard top for the winter. i know beemers and mercedes and others have them.
dont really plan to race the car but i wouldnt mind driving around a road course.
anyone have picks of a vert with a rollbar? just curious to see how it looks.
I would love to have a vert, but show me an owner that loves verts and i'll show you an owner that has never had his top cut.I used to own a Amigo and a jeep with canvas tops need I say more. Some towns are better than others, but in Baltimore It's just a matter of time. It's a shame.
I love the way the verts look with the top down, but cant stand the way it looks with the top up...just dont like that cloth top at all...coupe for me till corvette can come up with a solid top...

I thought about that, but if they wanted to get in to a coupe, how strong do you think that side glass would stand up to say a brick or nice size rock
As the first coupe owner to post on this thread, I must defend our territory!!
The coupe, IMO looks the best, because of the "fastback" look. Reminds me ALMOST of the '63-'64 Stingray fastbacks
Comparing both cars w/ the tops on, it's quite easy to see the coupe looks better than the vert
Not only do I like the coupe look better than either the vert or Z06, but bein able to "take my top off" is DEFINITELY, the best of both worlds!
ALSO, I think it was the great Lemans C5-R driver Ron Fellows who said "Real men drive with a roof over their heads and an engine up front!"
I love all vettes too, but IMO Vert's are over-rated..I guess some of it depends on where you live..in the south maybe you can enjoy them a bit more..
I would never own a vert even in the south. The top down is the top down to me,,wether it's completly down like a vert,, or the coupe.
Besides every other vert owner I have spoken too said they have had issues with the top leaking..wind noise, etc..
Since my first car a 1966 volks fast back w/ sunroof i sun/moon roofed every car since...... Bought SLK230, thenBMW Z3, finally arrived with the finest 2004 C5 vert, definetly hooked on fully letting the sun in whenever possible. Most fun car I have ever had.. by the way those foggy clouded windows were usually plastic, my Z3 turned yellow and yucky first year... glass on vet

thanks for all the input.
Yep. Somebody makes a removable hardtop for the vert. Don't know who, not having a vert I don't pay that much attention but they're out there.

no thanks
but in the end luv to all vettes
It's not really a big help down south either. Yeah, we get more warm months but during the summer, they're REALLY warm. Who wants to sit in traffic with 100 degree sun broiling you? Vert owners are still confined to spring/fall weather.

I love Ron but if he really believes that then he needs to stick his bod in a Formula 1, Cart Indy car or Top Fuel Dragster and then make that statement. Don't think so. Also, I too love the vert but this thread is

Obviously - living in Arizona, the sun really boils you in the summer. But I still drive it top down every chance I get! Nights and early mornings are primo! I drive it top down unless the temps are more than about 105 or so..... I wear a hat, sunglasses and keep the A/C on for when stopped in traffic. I wouldn't have it any other way!
I don't have any plans to race it other than autox, and honestly with the top up, A/C on - the convertible is just as quiet as a coupe. The tops are lined and fit pretty tight. I have no leaks - but I don't drive it in the rain unless I have to. I don't want the car to melt into a puddle of black licorice!

It's a myth. Black seats don't get any hotter than any other colour of leather IMO. My 82 CE silver beige seats got hotter than my black 89 vert seats or my current triple black 98.

When I lived in Az, the summer nights are way cool to drive at night with top down. The warm summer nights, I miss alot!
Performance would be the same, interior noise would be more in a vert, wind noise the same with the top up.It takes a little more care for a vert .The top is fabric and needs regular cleaning and a water repellant treatment once in a while. The vert is a very ridgid car and rides and handles as good as a coupe. I do like the coupe as well but I enjoy the vert at the Jersey Shore during the summer. LT
I have to disagree. We have both and I must say, the newer ('02+) convertible is quieter than our coupe, especially with the aftermarket exhust. As you say, the biggest differences between the two:
- coupe never needs top replacement
- more storage space in the coupe
Personally, I like the lines of the convertible better.
I like the pitter patter sound of the rain drops on the vert top.
I had to reglue the back window back on with some silicon. The top cost about $500 if you want to replace it too.
Vert. Is the best, less truck space but if remove the glass top of the coupe and carry it with you the vert has more room. Plus the vert. also weighs less. Vert. compaired to coupe is like comparing a two wheeled motorcycle to a three wheeler no brainer
