That sux. I'm glad no one was hurt. Not fun having to take the car in for repairs.

I just got wrecked also. First accident of consequence in my life and it has to be in my dream car?
I also wasn't injured and my car will be fixed. But I know what you mean about being depressed. Everyone says I'm in a funk. I'll be w/o mine for about 3 weeks.

So sorry to hear that!! I feared the same thing on a couple
occasions recently but lucked out! $1200, thats not bad. I thought it
would be 2G easy! I was rearended in a 95 camaro around 6 years,
that was $700+ at that time.

Good luck with the repair, I'm sure it will turn out fine!!

I, in fact, would make her better than new by upgrading the rear fascia with the Specter Werkes rear fascia. Heck, the rear has to be replaced anyway, right?

Best of luck in the repair.

Thanks to you all for the kind words. Lifetime cable, good suggestion. Don't sign anything - agreed. Don't forget that the accident devalues the car - you know it. And most of all, I too am thankful that no one was hurt - the car can be repaired, and as many of you have reminded me, watch your six. My neck is still a little stiff today but I would expect that - it was quite a bump - it is still better than Today's problem is.. made out by the sounds of his post.

I do want to let you all know that this was not a case of someone fooling around at least- the cable guy was 3 or 4 car lengths back when I first hit the brakes (I too try to watch behind me as I stop) and we had both been going between 25 - 30 before the light changed - he said he didn't see my brake lights (we were heading into the sun) and that he never touched his brakes. I am wondering if he had been on a cell phone or the radio though - when he got out of the truck he did have his cell in his hand. Anyone know where I can get C5 sized bandaids til its fixed?

The initial estimate is on the low side - it was a quick visual check and did not factor in the seat movement (another $3 -500 for a new set of rails I suspect) nor any potential exhaust problems (tips on the right side were bent and I thought it had gotten louder), nor the alignment check I will insist on, and the guy did say he would want to poke around under the rear panel before he had an estimate ready for the insurance co. It did appear that he hit me pretty square which prevented any punctures. And this is only 1 estimate - I will get others.

Again, thanks for the thoughts and words of encouragement.

I just got a more detailed estimate of the damages - it is going to run a little over 5K to fix me up. So, if you were ever wondering how much it would cost you to be rear ended by a pickup going 25 - 30 mph, now you have an idea.

I was just going to say, I had to have the Right rear quarter panel and the rear facia replaced and it was right at $2000. And all I did was hit a light pole while backing up!

Don't forget to demand compensation for loss of value. Your car has now been in an accident and will not bring what an accident free car would should you sell it. You deserve compensation for this loss. Don't take any crap from the insurance company! DEMAND it!

Hi Walt,
Like everyone else, I was very sorry to hear of your misfortune. I thought that first estimate sounded very low. I agree about checking out an upgraded rear facia unless you like the stock one best. With my Tigershark Corsas, I would love to have the matching rear facia but not everone likes it.

I hope everything works out to your satisfaction and that you are indeed fine physically.

By the way, did Dr. McGillicudy stop by that evening to help you deal with the emotional side of the situation???? Ha ha.

Best of luck to you,
Mike.
