If it had 30K miles on it two years ago, it's highly unlikely that it has 20K now!
I totally agree with that ----

Please inform this misguided engineer with a law degree as to exactly where the so-called "black box" is on the Corvette? Since I have extensive knowledge of the workings of all the computers used on the Vette, I have yet to find this out. I also have extensive use of the Techline system as well as the Tech 2, and have never seen such information.
Other interesting note is when servicing the IPC on a Vette, it is a requirement the exact mileage be programmed into the IPC (Federal Law), and if the exact mileage cannot be read off the old IPC, then a sticker is required, that states, vehicle mileage is unknown. If there was a hidden black box, a sticker would not be required if the IPC failed.
So, I'm curious, as I'm sure others are.
Thanks in advance.

Oh, the correct terminology is re-flash the computer, not recode it. Also, plugging a Tech 2 into the OBD-II (DLC) connector will not give vehicle mileage except that which is retained by the IPC.
As another person posted, his IPC was replaced, and the mileage was incorrect, if they had had this "black box" would they not have had the correct mileage?

Thats interesting. Something to watch out for as the C5s get older.

Let's just all believe the C5 has a black box...whether it's true or not, so that we can keep people's dishonest thoughts to a minimum. Let's keep these kinds of posts off the forum as it leads to knowledge on how to create odometer fraud.

While the poster had good intentions, all details do not need to be exposed on the workings of the system.

Here are a few links to the black box. Trust me it tells more info then just the airbags that it claims. And don't ask how I know I've said to much already.

I read the info on black boxes and didn't see any mention of the black box recording the odometer reading. Did I miss something?

I just sold my 2001 with only 16,608 on the odometer........I live in Buffalo so I couldn't drive it in the Winter............

Seems strange to me that even the dealer would have access to reset the odometer.
