I have a stock 98 convertible with 53000 miles. I want to do some mods for improved performance. What should I be looking at? Also, should I have the work done at the Chevy dealer or a specialty "Vettech" type of shop?
This subject seems to come up almost daily. Airbox, headers, heads and cam are for starters. DO NOT under ANY circumstances let the stealership do any of your mods. Also, you might want to look for a dealership that is 'mod friendly'. Good luck
First, and probably most importantly, you need to decide what you are willing to spend. Mods for our cars range in price from free (zip tie mod, cut outs on filter cover) to upwards of 20k (twin turbo and 427 setups). I went in looking to just do an underdrive pulley for about 500 and ended up with about 10 times as much.......The result was phenomenal though, the car is a blast to drive and acceleration is sickening!!!, and I love it!!!! Give us an idea of what you are looking for and we will gladly help you with the fever!

First you get some mufflers that are the size of a small beer keg and stick them on the end of your tailpipe. That's good for 20 hp. Then you get a large red "R" decal and put it on the back. Two if possible. They're good for at least 5 hp each. Then get the famous underhood seal that will add 5 hp to your car and go out looking for Z06's!

There really should be a "mod faq", or something similar since we all see these posts almost every day. I for one asked the very same questions, and was given sound advice from the gracious members here.
Generally an air intake and an exhaust w/ x-pipe is a good place to start. You need to consider where you want to end up before you start so that you don't mod and undo too often.

It's all good .... go for it!!!
Check my sig for mods and the resulting horsepower increases. My total cost has been about $800.
Oh, by the way, for a good looking mod you should check out Dave68's shift *****. Those are sahweet!! Although I think the HP gains he claims from them are overrated!!!......
