Default Auto Corvette Help: Burnouts, Donuts?

Hey, I'm buying a 97, 98, or 99 Corvette but I've mostly found Auto's. I was wondering what are the cons of gettin an Auto? What could I do with a manual that I can't do in an Auto?
I want a manual but I haven't found many and I live in New York City which would be a pain to drive.
Also, I was wondering if I can do a burnout with an Auto? and how? (would I just have to press down on the brake and gas)
Same question with Donuts?
Will this hurt my transmission/engine?
And if I'm cruising at about 15-25mph and I quickly shift to neutral, rev it a lil, and quickly switch back to drive will that mess up my tranny?
What's the 0-60 and ET for a stock A4 Vette?

Thank You.

They actually have BRAKES.....and breaks is what will happen if you go into neutral, rev and drop into gear.

IF you feel the need to burn your tires........just use some brake, and put a little power to it with the brakes on.

WARNING: This can cause accidents, tickets and money for new tires

What?

Anyway, I guess you could still do burnouts by using brake and acceleration.

I would advise the auto.

Also, I was wondering if I can do a burnout with an Auto? and how? (would I just have to press down on the brake and gas)
Same question with Donuts?
For burnouts, press the brake pedal down a little bit. DO NOT PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY DOWN. Just a little bit. While holding the brake pedal, hit the gas pedal. Adjust throttle accordingly so you don't bounce off the rev limiter. Let go of the brakes when you wish to proceed.

Donuts are easier. There's no science involved. Turn wheel, hit gas. Hold gas and wheel until you want to stop.

Will this hurt my transmission/engine?
Not really. The vast majority of the harm will be done to the tires. The only real harm comes with the initial shock of stomping on the pedal, and even then, you don't have to do that. It's possible to do a burnout by pressing the brakes about halfway down and then rolling on to the gas smoothly. This is easier on the car than slamming on the gas with the brakes on.

Donuts are even easier as the initial shock through the drivetrain is diminished further. Plus, you won't need your brakes for this.

And if I'm cruising at about 15-25mph and I quickly shift to neutral, rev it a lil, and quickly switch back to drive will that mess up my tranny?
Yes.

High-4s 0-60, and low-13s in the 1/4 are the norm.

Thank You.

Go out and buy the auto. On you first time out go to the first stoplight you see try this.

1, Hold your foot on the brake.
2, put the car in neutral.
3, MASH the throttel to the floor.
4, watch your tach when it hits 6000 rpm, or the rev limiter pings QUICKLY pull the shifter into 1st gear.
5, Get a ride home logg on to the fourm and let us know how you did.

I'm guessing that causes the vette to launch hard and makes the tires spin a lil right before?
That's an auto Very nice

Thanks everyone for the help! I'm gettin prob. a '99 Vette around my 18th B-day (Jan. 10). I want a Red Vette but might end up with a white one because there are a few that I'm looking at..

Is there anything about the Manual that I couldn't do with an Auto? The only reason I would get a Manual is that it could be more fun and is faster but the A4 Vette is already very quick.

Sorry kid, but with that mentality you're gonna end up plowing through someone's garage door like kid in in the blue WRX did.

Forget burnouts and donuts, and if you really do get a Vette make sure to get one with Active Handling - and don't disable the system (including the traction control) until you get some mileage under the belt. They all had it halfway through the 98 model year.

Putting an auto tranny in neutral (weather your driving or not) and bringing the revs up, then slamming it into gear WILL damage the transmission - you'd be lucky to do it 5 times at most.

Don't mean to burst your bubble, I'd just hate for you to write off your Vette and endanger yourself and others. You may not be as lucky as I was when I wrote off my Fbody @ the age of 20.

Im 18, ive had my 94' since i was 16, no wrecks or anything, drive responsible, do all my own work to my car.

You are really making yourself sound like the stereotypical, unresponsible teenager.
no offense, I really dont think you should be driving a vette or any other powerful car if u dont know the difference between a stick and auto.
If your asking if neutral bombs and doughnuts are bad for your car your asking to slam into a building or completely destroy your car in some way.

:i agree: I can't believe people are actually giving you advice on this. I hope I am no where near you when you drive and good luck to anyone who is. With questions like that I can only hope you either DO NOT get a Vette because you will soon find out it is way too much car for you. Or you don't kill or injure anyone.

You sound like some of the kids I knew growing up in the 60's. Most of them wound up with their Corvette wrapped around a pole or tree in less than a month. Suggest you start with something a little less powerful than a Vette and work your way up.
