I recently took my c5 to chevy to perform the steering column lock recall. The car was running fine prior to them performing the recall and fine after that until the other day .This is the problem the car will start up fine run excellent in nuetral or park but when I engage drive or reverse it will move approximately 3 feet and die out .The computer now says service steering column lock again . I had it towed to the dealer and there telling me the recall was performed successfully and they dont know why the code is popping up and dont know where to start to correct the problem meaning this could get really expensive. I told them to wait until I got some more info. HELP
I wouldn't trust a dealership that "doesn't know where to start". Just doesn't sound right. You can always take it to another dealer and put them up to the "show me you're a better dealership, fix my car and you'll get my business" challenge.

If they did the recall right, I wouldn't think the column should lock on an A4. Weren't they supposed to put a plate in there to prevent this? It sounds to me like they did not do something right. If you can get another dealership to look at it without you having to spend a fortune, then that is the way I would go.
You must of found a dealer that doesn't know what they are doing.
I took my '99 Auto in for the recall and every thing worked out fine.
they removed the steering lock plate and reprogramed the computer.
Ever since I had the warranty work done I now am costantly getting the "Service Steering Lock", "Service Tire Monitor SYS.", and sometimes the dreaded "Flat Tire" warning. I keep hitting the "reset" button but they keep coming back. I did leave the radar detector on for several days and the battery would not start the car and I had to jump it. I'm thinking my problem may have something to do with that and may need reproramming.
