I took my Vette to the dealership about 6 months and 1000 miles ago to fix a leaky rearend. It was due to a gasket leak on the left side of the diff. My car was not under warranty and it cost about $400 to fix. Now it is doing the same thing. Should the dealer fix it for free if it is the same problem?
The car is a 2001 Z06 and it only has about 9000 miles on it.
I have the same problem with mine leaking on the left side of differential housing.
A local shop who specializes in vettes quoted me $100 to replace gasket.
I would think the dealership that did the repair on yours would be responsible for it, at no charge, since it has only been a few months and very little miles.
Absolutely, they should fix it at no charge. Sounds like they may have not used the anaerobic sealant to help prevent future leaks. Also, make sure they are using the latest seal design.

My 99 had a leak on the right side. I looked like the output shaft seal was leaking so I replaced it. Still leaked, found out that there is a small hole on top of the housing centered over the output shaft. In the hole is a metal plug, the plug leaked when the car was in motion. Cleaned it off with Brake Klean and sealed it with black RTV, work like a charm.
Had mine done twice. First time they used the faulty seals and it leaked again. The second time they used the new seals and it has been leak free since early July 04 and 2000 miles.
The new seals part nbrs are: 88996703 and 89047953. These are the seals for the shaft and the cover plate.
The total cost was $74.88 parts and $145.96 labor. Total: $220.84
The repairs were paid for by my GMPP Major Guard plan since my 3yr/36,000 warranty had expired. The work was done by my delivering dealer and I was very satisfied with the work and the care that they took of my Corvette.
Swimmer, in addition to all the good information you have especially from Cirrus8, it might also help to make sure that your dealer is aware of the GM bulletin that pertains to this problem for all C5 Corvettes.
The GM number is 03-04-20-005- (Sep 12,2003)
I had mine fixed last month. Most of the repairs have involved the left side output shaft. Hope this helps you.
