Default Reset computer

I just had 2 computers replaced on my C5 and now the gas mileage is about 8 mpg less that it was. I talked to the original owner and he said he had never tweeked the computer at all. The dealership said it was set to stock. Non the less, the performance is less and so is the fuel mileage. Any suggestions? Can the computer be reset and erase the settings in it without damaging it?

I'm not sure I'm following what you're saying and exactly why it is you feel the computer needs tweaking/resetting. Driving conditions can have a decided effect on fuel economy and I would not think that 8 mpg variance would necessarily be out of the norm; i.e., all city driving Vs all highway mileage or lots of WOT Vs little or no WOT.

Your owner's manual covers how the system computes the average mpg and you may want to review this. The system computes the average mpg from the last time the average was reset. For best accuracy, the average mpg should be reset each and every time you refuel. Otherwise, the average is viewed as a long time approximation from the last time it was reset. To reset the average, press the FUEL button until the AVERAGE MPG appears in the DIC, then press the RESET button.

My suggestion would be to check your average fuel economy over several tanks of gas making sure you reset the Average MPG each time you refuel as instructed by the owner's manual. You may even want to compute you mileage manually to see how the two compare. Then if you find there is a great variance you could discuss this with your dealer.

Hope this helps.

Thanks I will try this. The fuel mileage has changed but how I drive has not. I am driving very closely to the same that I always have. I will check the mileage with a calculator and compare the two.
