Default Shape differences between Coupe and FRC ?

This may seem like a dumb question, but I noticed a lot of folks mentionned they like the FRC shape better over the Coupe for a certain reason.

The only difference I can tell is that the Coupe has lines where the removable roof is places, whereas the FRC obviously has none.

Visually, is there anything else different ?

Thanks !!

Yeah...the rear window. On the FRC, it looks like a hard top vert. The Coupe has a large sweeping rear window. FRC also has a trunk, Coupe has a hatchback.

See signature for FRC/Z06.

Yep, and this is NOT a FRC.

Hmm so if I get it right, the FRC's rear window is not as big, and more upright ?

Correct. Figure the FRC as a hard top Vert.

You are right about the rear window. But I really can't narrow it down but the FRC just has a difference stance to it than the coupe. Maybe it's the lines, angles, the fixed roof, the trunk area, something?

But just in general those differences that was mentioned in prior post is about it.

Oh and one more thing. They are a bit lighter than coupes and verts. They were made that way. Maybe that's why they sit a bit different because they are lighter?

Visually not to much more that I can point at directly and show you an obvious difference.

By the way the new C6 ZO6 is a coupe now, not a FRC.

Thanks guys, found a good pic to clearly show the differences below:

I think I like the Coupe rear-window better, looks a little more exotic. The FRC shape doesn't seem to 'flow' as well. If that makes any sense! But both a beautiful regardless!

There's a number of functional differences too. The top on the FRC doesn't come off and the trunk on an FRC and a vert are MUCH smaller than the coupe.

So it's a matter of priorities. If you want the fastest vette, the FRC, particularly in Z06 form, is the way to go. If you want the sun and stars, it's gotta be a vert. If you don't want to give up the sun and stars but you still need to carry those two golf bags and a big cooler, go for the coupe.

You can't hardly go wrong no matter what you choose.

Thanks guys, I knew all the Coupe/Z06 differences and I believe FRC chassis' are not only lighter but also 12% stiffer, I just never clearly noticed the visual differences of the rear window / trunk area.

I am dying till I get my C5, I still have another 164 days to go (yes, I'm counting, pretty sad huh?). I owned an Fbody LS1 before so I know sort of what to expect, and after reading this forum I became confident that the Vette is a superior car to the Fbody from any angle I look at it.

It's gonna be a long winter up here, thank god for skiing, will help the time pass! And thank god for this board, I am already addicted and check-in half a dozen times daily.

I gotta say, I love the Vette-smile-n-wave-culture and the PermaGrin™ and can't wait to be a part of it!

<- me anxiously awaiting spring time!

I prefer the look of the FRC because my friend has a 02 Z06 and I liked the look of his car but... you cannot get a FRC with an A4 so... I got the coupe.

I think they're both beautiful cars. If I had gotten a deal on a FRC like I got on my coupe, I'd have a FRC. (Is it "a FRC" or "AN FRC"?) Although I do like riding around most of the year with the roof off.

Jackalope...hate to split hairs with you here, but the only additional room you have in the Coupe is the area in your rear window area. the FRC/Z06 has a nice large trunk area. With my partition out, I can easily fit 2 golf bags and a cooler in my Z. Now, it is harder to get all of that out of my Z than out of your Coupe. I will give you that.

Functionally, the coupe has better aerodynamics, and can attain a higher top end than the FRCs. This is why the C5R's use the coupes styling.

Default Coupe/FRC

ALready had a coupe but loved the FRC's - so.... am in process of buying the FRC too. I wouldn't buy the FRC first because then I would be stuck with the 6-speed, which I don't care for in traffic. I don't always want to drive a manual - sort of have to be in the mood for the fun of it. But hate them for everyday trafrfic stop and go stuff. The 1999 and 2000 model FRC's are getting to be rare and so should hold their value pretty good. A 1999 FRC can be bought for in the range of $17k to $24K, depending on the mileage and condition of the car, and it goes up if there are some pretty expensive mods made to them. They are beautiful cars.
