Default Paint Question: Stone and Chip Resistant

In reading "My Custom Painted Rims" posted by P8riot, I too was wondering about stone chips etc..
I recall that there was paint available a few years ago, could be many years ago as I'm old, that contained a substance that was kinda rubberized and when it was applied left a bit of a ripple affect to the surface. Stones and debris kinda bounce off. Was similar to undercoating, but color was the same as the car color.
I believe the factory sprayed wheel wells etc with it.
Does anyone recall this?
If so does anyone know if its still available and the vendor?

Appreciate it!

Regards.

There are multiple manufacturers of this type of product, commonly called "chip guard" in the auto body industry.

I think Mercedes or BMW offers a paint that is "chip resistant" Don't know which of the two it is. I read an article about it a few months ago. I'd pay a huge premium for this option if available on the vette. Heck, if I ever get the car repainted, I'll request to have that done. The C5's paint is as delicate as sugar. Even a piece of paper could scratch the clearcoat.

I remember this stuff too. The link provided should give you a good idea about the product. From what I can recall, it did work pretty good.
