In reading "My Custom Painted Rims" posted by P8riot, I too was wondering about stone chips etc..
I recall that there was paint available a few years ago, could be many years ago as I'm old, that contained a substance that was kinda rubberized and when it was applied left a bit of a ripple affect to the surface. Stones and debris kinda bounce off. Was similar to undercoating, but color was the same as the car color.
I believe the factory sprayed wheel wells etc with it.
Does anyone recall this?
If so does anyone know if its still available and the vendor?
I think Mercedes or BMW offers a paint that is "chip resistant" Don't know which of the two it is. I read an article about it a few months ago. I'd pay a huge premium for this option if available on the vette. Heck, if I ever get the car repainted, I'll request to have that done. The C5's paint is as delicate as sugar. Even a piece of paper could scratch the clearcoat.
