While the Pace was being dried off yesteray at the detailing shop, the back window literally just fell into the car. I know I have read a few times here about this happening.

Dang that is unreal... I dont think I have heard of that happening... I know on my 89 C4 vert the window was the plastic instead of the glass.. I had to have it replaced and restitched within the existing top... had a place here in Lexington do it....so I didnt have to replace the entire top... just a new window... I can give ya the info if you want it....

Is there ANY fix besides replacing the top?
If I remember right, the window is bonded to the top. I don't know if an upholstery shop could fix it or not. It's worth asking one though.
If you can find somebody in the club that has had their top replaced and the shop did a good job, those would be the people to call.
I have successfully bonded a 20 in seperation of the top/rear glass at the lower portion. Since the majority of the glass was still in place, holding and aligning the glass was not an issue.
With total seperation you may be able to clamp the glass in position and bond the perimeter in sections. A glass shop may be able to handle this using urethane glass bonding agent.
Since a new top will prob run $1000 installed,,nothin to lose trying to repair it.
I have seen this on many verts.
A guy in our club had this happen ...he went back to the dealer and they had a interior person glue it in...that was 3 years ago and no problems. Not sure what they used but the top had to come off and was put in some type of heat press with glue

Much better than buying new. Keep us posted. I am sure this will become an issue for more of us.
If it's all the way out, I'd suggest a top replacement. You might contact Slamndvert to see if he has any. I just sold one from an 02 vert (black) on eBay for $350 in excellent condition. I took it off the frame myself and took pictures along the way. Now, I have to reinstall the shale top onto the new frame...doesn't look like it'll be that hard, though I have to go pick up a different staple gun as the one I have isn't powerful enough for upholstery work. It took me about 2 hours to uninstall the old one. I think it will take me 2-4 hours to reinstall the new one...just to make sure it's adjusted tight. These times are with the top frame off the car...I think it might be easier if the frame is mounted on the car...
On rebonding it, I had a friend successfully reglue a portion of his, but I wouldn't recommend it for the whole rear glass. ON top of that, your car is now 7 years old and the time required to do the bonding might be wasted if your top needs replaced in the next year or two anyway. Once they start to degrade, they' typically go pretty fast. If the car has not always been garaged, the UV will have already taken a pretty good toll on it...

I think I would see if a shop could bond it back in first. If not, you really have not lost much. You can always replace the entire top if that doesn't work. Best of luck. Sorry to hear that his happened.
