I'm actively looking for a c5 and have noticed that some cars have a suspension adjustment setting on the console. Just exactly what does this thing do? Do these cars have the magnetic shocks or is this something else? What option number is it? Does it really work or is it just another **** to play with? Would you treat it as a preference or an avoidance item? Also, what year did it show up?

The **** will adjust your shock valving between touring and sport settings, with sport being a stiffer setting. The F45 suspension came out in 1997 and ended in 2002. In 2003 and 2004, you could get F55, which was the magnetic selective ride control system, which was in effect the next generation of the adjustable suspension. Is it worth it - only you can decide. The components are expensive to replace, but from what I understand, the F55 is an amazing ride control system that reacts almost instantly.
I agree with all the above and add that the F55 is really col. Amazingly smoothe ride in tour and reall taute in sport. I suggest it as it the best of both worlds!
I have the F-45 suspension and just love it. Three settings tour, sport, and performance. Each works as described and makes the car a joy on the road and at autocrosses.
Thanks for the info. I'm working on a couple of possibilities. My wife wanted me to get an automatic and that's what I've been looking for even though I'm afraid that I won't like it. I guess I had my lip out enough that she told me this weekend that I really didn't HAVE to get an auto. So I'm sort of starting the hunt over again. Im a real sucker for NBM/oak/oak or white/red/white.
I have a line on a 99 NBM/oak/oak vert auto with polished y2k's and 27k miles for 24.5. Looks to be a decent 2 owner piece. What do you guys think?

Just my .02 but depending on how long each person owned it, i would be a little concerned that there has been 2 owners. It could potentially indicate that there were some problems with it and they decided to unload it. Or it couldnt. Either way, make sure you get a full inspection. Search the forum, you will definately get an idea of all the comon problems to look for.

Here in San Diego, that would be a very good buy on a vert! I really look at the overall condition of the car as much as the asking price.
I bought my '98 for $25K 6 months ago with 19k miles in absolutely perfect condition loaded with all options inc. F45 suspension option, tinted glass and chrome wheels. I felt a bought a brand new C5 for 1/2 price! There are alot of very good C5's for sale, so take your time.
