I try to stay away from all cars pulling trailers and pick-ups full of stuff. I have seen too much road junk - not to mention the recliner that fell off a PU in front of me. Missed it thank goodness.

Anyway, yesterday I was on an Interstate behind a PU pulling a trailer. This was a nice rig, but I moved over two lanes and speeded up a little to pass him. As I was passing, I saw sparks and debris at the back of the truck - the trailer had come of the hitch (or something). I kicked it up to get the hell away and watched in my rear view mirror. The PU swayed from side to side as the trailer (on safety chains) jerked the rear around, but he managed to control it and get the rig pulled off the road.
Lucky for the driver, we were in a clear spot - not much traffic around us.

Lucky for everyone he/she was a good driver. People don't realize what a difference it makes to a vehicle by towing something behind it!
People that shouldn't be driving to begin with can go into a U-Haul place and put another couple of thousand pounds behind their own ride and head on down the road!
Glad you got clear of it all!-

Seems like the more in the back of a pick-up or an unsafe trailer the faster they go!

I've had a close call myself.
Now I'm like you and try to stay as far away as possible from over-loaded trucks and trailers to avoid any on coming bouncing cargo!

While riding my bike on the highway I witnessed a steel plate fall off a truck at 75 mph. I didn't think something that big and heavy could bounce. Man that was scary. Glad your experience was not a disaster.

The other day I was driving home in a 45 MPH residential 4-laner and a football came from some yard beside the road and instantly went underneath the front of my car. I had about .25 second to see it and react, and got some braking prior to hitting the thing, plus there was a cement truck right behind me....I groaned as I heard it crunch the front bumper and felt it bump it's way under the car. Well I pulled over and checked out the damage at the next parking lot.....

The lower part of the front spoiler had taken all the force, and broke all the paint off, but no underbody damage was apparent.

And, luckily for me, I was driving my Volvo that day and not my C5....

The scariest moment I had in my C5 was stopping at a stop light behind a 28ish foot center console on a trailer. I gave it a good 15-20 feet or so room in front of me, you know, when the folks beside and behind you look at you like you are strange. Well I'm glad I did because all of a sudden the bilge pump kicked in and sprayed brownish black oily sludge back in a big arc behind that boat!! I nearly cracked at that one but was able to back up and switch lanes quickly and later pulled over to check the damage. Luckily none.

Ok another story. I was driving down the same street, one light past the boat incident on another fine FL day, and was nearing another light and slowing to a stop. There was an old Van in the left lane, already stopped at the light. When I was about a C5 length behind and in the right lane, this guy comes dashing around the front of the van, standing right in front of me, waving his arms up, etc. By the time I stopped I was abeam the rear bumper of the van. As I was about to ask/yell what the heck was going on, the engine of the van exploded and flames came out the front/side and nearly scorched the guy who was standing there in front of my car, where I would have been sitting in about 2 seconds!! I quickly laid rubber and pulled to the right into B King and diverted around the place to another road....

Ok, one more. At work I try like most of you to park out of the way. When I left my car one morning it was in the 2nd spot from the last at the far end of the lot from the building. The lot is on a sideways slope. Someone came in at lunch who knew my C5 ways and excitedly asked me if I had seen my car lately. I dashed outside to see.......that a cement mixer truck had parked right next to my car! As I got closer I almost freaked as I noticed that the hopper had come dis-connected and had swung away from the rear of the truck, and was pointed right down....AT THE INTERIOR OF MY OPEN TOPPED COUPE!!! Oh man I was pretty ticked at that one.

People that say drive the C5 always, etc....yeah, yeah I'm with ya but I cannot wait to leave this milltown and go overseas with my car - I feel like it's a bit much for these parts at times!

My suggestion would be to go buy a lottery ticket - now!
