For example, a friend of mine who owns an 03 (traded his 2002 in for it) said don't buy an '02 or earlier because the windows leak and they fixed that on the '03. Or is this just his '02 that had a problem? Or... do I just assume that 2004 is the best of the C5s? C6 would be do-able but I just love the C5 styling. Thanks from a NOOB!
I recommend the Corvette Black Book by Mike Antonick. It contains all the information you're looking for.

You can get it at Amazon or your local bookstore:

Corvette Black Book 1953-2004 by Mike Antonick

they have improved each year but there are no bad years. the older models are cheeper and the newer are better as a general rule.
the real question is not about the car but about you:
is it to be your daily driver? if so I would get the newest I could afford.
are you going to mod the car? If so I would look at an older model (I just hate to $hitt can a brand new part but that is just me)

mine is a 3rd mode of transportation and I like to mod so I chose a great deal on a loaded mid-to-high mile 99 vert ($21k and no it wasn't all that i could afford, I payed cash and kept the other $20k to spend on mods)

In the end a corvette is a form of entertainment so buy what you enjoy and drive it.

ps if you are under 25 double check the insurance.

I'm not defensive...obviously!
I'm just not going to let you mislead people.
Every year there will be some cars that will have problems but that dosn't mean that whole year was flawed.
That would be like saying everyone in your family is as stupid as you are. But I bet not all of them are as flawed as you.

I recently purchased a C 5. I found the following site helpful in comparing the various model years. Start with the 97...scroll to the bottom of the page for other years.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your decision.

Default Thanks to all for the info! Holy Cow!

Thanks, what great source of information. Thanks to everyone. I am headed to Barnes & Noble to see if they got the black book or other referance. I was actually about half way to B&N when I realized I still had pumpkin pies in the oven! Happy Thanksgiving Vette Peoples !

No but it is apparent that you are an a** and your d**khead comments aren't helping this guy or anyone for that matter. He is buying the newest one he can find or a C6. So no one cares about your 97. And I'm done taking about this. So say whatever uninformed comments you want.

Man! Is there too much lead in the water up there in Michigan/Wisconsin this time of year? Easy guys. This ain't a pro basketball game here.
Me, I think the Black Book is a good idea too.
