I have had my 03 for a year and i am still learning about all the buttons and ***** i have inside the car half of which i donot use.Have never had the heat on or the windshield wipers among other things. But then their are alot of other things i do know about the car.Since i use to work on my cars along time ago myself, but the cars of today are to hi tech for me so i let me mechanic help me out with what i need.I went to auto school along time ago i was the only girl in a class of 25 men and i did more car work then they did none of them ever wanted to get under a car or try to rebuild things but it was fun for me.
Owners I can understand, they can learn later but it's the dealer sales staff that does not always know their stuff!
I knew more about the 2002 vert that I recently bought than the sale person did. Didn't leave me with a warm and fuzzy feeling. When I went back to actually buy the car I refused to work with Mr. "Doesn't know his S... and worked directly with the sales manager.
I guess I'm just getting grumpy in my advanced years.
Me, I know very little about my car! Right now I know as much as I want to! When I get in it and it cranks up, I’m happy! I’m driving an American icon and I love it!
Now lets back up! I had a 66 SS396 running Super stock. I had a set of Doug Thorley headers that cost $250, in 1968. The 4 “ collectors were right under my feet. I was turning in the mid to high 11’s. This was in 68! I built all my engines, replaced the syncro’s in the 4-sp, installed the 5:13 gears R&P. I did it all!
Now I just want to get in my Vette and drive! No noisy pipes, no hassle, just great gas mileage! Am I wrong to be this way? I don’t think so!
I went through all the same stuff with a 69 440 Roadrunner. 11.80's with a single 4 barrel. We didn't have nitrous and turbos or superchargers.
Although I still enjoy aggressive driving and occasional tracktime, I have no inclination to turn my "sport" into a job. I have fond memories of grease filled cuts and burns on my knuckles and swear words that most people here never heard of. I can probably still drive fast enough on the track with my stock coupe to scare the pants off just about anybody, including myself. If I want to go faster yet, I'll pop for a stock Z06. If and when that's not enough, there'll always be something else I can buy right off the shelf with no hassles and a warranty.

Man - don't be so hard on yourself - and I for one admire that you had the "brass" to stand up and admit you were a little judgemental to put it politely!
As far as "knowing the car" - that knowledge comes at several levels. I know my car and corvettes in general pretty well - but that's because I tend to really get immersed into things I'm passionate about. But as my boss is trying to beat into my fat head , don't judge others by the standards you set for yourself! If nothing else, you'll not get stressed out on the over which you have no control!

OK OK>>>>> Its a car......many here know EVERYTHING there is to know about it...... many here know some about it.......
many here know nothing more then they LOVE to drive it.......
many here think it would MELT if caught in the rain.........
many here had their DADDYs buy it for them.......
Many drive it like its stolen...park in the safe spots.....believe ZAINO is god......and look damn good driving it...........
Pick your spot and enjoy the heck out of the car.........!!!!!!!!
I'm sorry but I agree with the poster of this thread. For myself I took the time to learn something about my car before I even bought it. That way I knew what should come with the car and what options were offered. Needless to say I always knew more than the salespeople at dealerships. This helped me to see through any false information they had to give me. At the very least, because of the Internet, we should be informed consumers and not falsely surprised after our car purchase.
Every Corvette buyer should know:
- Going prices
- The C-model years
- About the wave
- The cars options
- Engine displacement
Speaking on behalf of all the "average C5 owners", let me deeply apologize for offending you, oh great and wise genius of C5 information. We weren't aware that we needed your consent before we could buy and drive a car we enjoy.
