You might also want to check Grumpy that your car must not be left unattended. Anytime it is left in a parking lot without a person standing by it, you might not be covered. This really limits you to minimal driving. The car is either being shown with a person standing by or in the garage under lock and key. Check and confirm.
Are we having fun. The other option is to buy Liability only and be self insured. Are we having fun.. I just Love Insurance.
I went through all of this when I was trying to insure my old '69 Camaro. I called everyone Grundy, Haggerty, ect. Most if not all of these big names have the same restrictions. Car must be garaged, can't be a daily driver, can't leave it unattended in a parking lot unless at a show, ect, ect. After telling each of these companies how I intended to USE my car I promptly recieved letters stating that I was refused coverage. I found a company called AON Collector Car Insurance at www.aoncollectorcar.com . Unlimited milage and no usage restrictions. I used them for about a year until I sold the '69. I never had to file a claim with them so I can't tell you about their claims service but the price was right. I called them after I bought my C5 but the will not insure newer cars so I went ahead and listed the Vette with USAA along with my other vehicles. If you are considering any of these compaines get a representative on the phone and ask very detailed questions, give specific examples (movies, shopping, ect) and read your policy closely. If you don't your claim might possibly be denied. Good luck with your search. B
If you dig into these companies, you'll find that the reason they can offer unlimited mileage is because they generally limit the use of the vehicle to a "hobby". They then define as hobby as something like to and from or participating in a show, parade, exhibit, etc..
As mentioned above, you might want to check the actual policy for the conditions regarding use as a general means of transport. If all one does is wash, wax and show the car, then maybe this is the insurance for you. If you want to take the car for a spin on a nice sunny day to see the family, you might be in a for shock.
Does anyone here use Grundy to insure their Vette? Today they gave me a quote of $520 a year for full coverage with no deductable on both my '94 and my '97, right now I am paying $2004 to Allstate. I think a saving of almost $1500 is worth switching. By the way the only restriction with Grundy is it can not be use for everyday use and there is unlimited milage.
Several of us have our street rods insured with Grundy. One has had 2 claims, rear tire shedded at 85mph+ and demolished his rear fender, again he was hit by a lady driving and looking at his car. Grundy paid off like a broken slot machine with no hassle
Admiral Fairway,
I looked into Grundy Ins. about 6 months ago, they were so RUDE I will never look to there company again. I had spent almost an hour on the phone with some blunt snooty lady giving here all my info, when I gave here my DOB so said we don't take people like you and hung up Back to topic before I start I too was insured under allstate and had no complaints except for the price. Grundy is a good deal if you don't use the car for daily driving (Or much of anything else). I mentioned to my agent if there were "special" coverage for my cars under allstate, he said no but under Hagerty there were. Seems that Hagerty is owned by Allstate, or something like that, he was super nice and it saved me almost 1200 per year. If I can remember correctly you have to have the cars stored in a locked garage, there are limits to who can drive, no mileage limitations, you must have a alternate daily driver, you can not drive them to work of for job related functions. I can't say enough about the customer service, they sent an appraiser to my house to photograph the cars and storage facilities. Then supplied me with three independent appraisals of the cars form different people. This was far above my expeditions, I expected to be low balled on the value of the cars based on year, this was not so the '96 appraised at 1K less than sticker in '96, and the '89 was almost equally as impressive. With this being said just shop around and see what you can find, there are lots of companies. Best of luck in you search.
