Is you horseshoe shape pin still in the shifter ****?
if so try taking some of the thread tape that you use on plumbing fixture to stop leaks, that should allow you to build up the diameter of the shaft for the shifter **** so that it will be a little tighter. it's worth a try

A very small screw driver would help also just to get the horseshoe pin started. and no wonder I was have trouble removing mine because i was pulling the wrong ****
