I am thinking about being proactive and replace my battery before it dies. What is the best and easiest way to do it? I’m not very computer literate so I want to be able to keep all my “Stuff” working right!
Car is an 01 C4 with 48,000 miles.
Thanks
I have an 01 and did the same thing, replaced with the Optima. My delco was the Agm which is not supposed to have the leaking problem but I understand has a high failure rate so I wanted to be proactive. I simply disconnected and removed the old battery, took the opertunity to clean the area under the battery and put in the new Optima. All of my settings were fine after the change, including radio stations but I am aware of some issues to watch for:
1. Check to see if your Radio has a security lock, if so you will need the code to unlock it. Procedure in owners manual.
2. May have to retrain Fob's, I did not have too they worked just fine.
3. I also connect a Battery Tender (Float charger not a trickle charger that would cause overcharge) on my Vette if it is going to sit for over a couple of weeks to make sure the Battery stays charged.
There is a little do-dad thingy which can save your settings - it is basically a 9 volt battery connected to a cigarette lighter plug - you plug it into the cigarette lighter before you disconnect the battery and the 9 volt supplies enough power to let you change the battery without losing the settings. We'll need someone else to let us know who sells them though....

If you want easy, buy your battery at Autozone drive the car there and have them install it for you they didn't charge anything extra and got rid of my delco for me.

The biggest issue is if you have the Theft-Lock set on the stereo. You'll know if you do if the little red L.E.D. is blinking when the ignition is off. If it is - you'll have to enter the security code. If you don't know it, then the code will have to be changed.
Here is a Tech tip that was published here on the Forum....

You got a lot of good answers to your question up there.
When I replaced my battery with a Red Top, all I had to do was reset the time on the radio clock. I did not use the cigarette lighter thingy. Just don't drop anything like a screw when you're replacing the battery or you'll have time getting it out. Other than that, it's easy.

now......... you say you have an 01 C4??
Yes, a 01 C4! Very rare car! Maybe the only one in existence! I found it in a barn waaaaayyyy back in the sticks! The old farmer didn’t know what it was!
PS If you check the post time it was early, like before daylight, in the morning when I posted and the guy that has the recipe for coffee hadn’t got here yet! LOL
I promise to do better next time!
