I have done a search, nothing on this question that I could find. Those who have (or are planning too) install seat hoops:
How did you attach them?
The vendors are suggesting that you Epoxy them in place in stead of bolting them on (because you have to remove the gas tank??). The issues I have with Epoxy is that if for some reason down the road you wanted to remove them, how could you?
All opinions and options are greatly appreciated!!
I had ordered mine , I think Mid west, and they asked me if I wanted the 2 part gallon of epoxy. Sounded like that type of epoxy was real wet and drippy. I chose to use 4- 7" tubes of a firmer, clay like epoxy I used many times before. Got it at my local hardware 5.99 each. Neat to work with. I think that if you wanted to remove prying a chisel to break the seal would help you remove them(wonder why you would want to do that).. I mounted mine loose fit for a few days to make sure I was happy with them. I think the look great in my 04 Mag red Vert. Only installed 2 weeks, cant wait for summer
For the life of me, I can't imagine why anyone would want to use a permanent agent like epoxy to install seat hoops. Very messy and nearly impossible to remove (heaven forbid if you don't get the installation right the first time). I got mine from Matukas Motorsports and they are not only top quality, but they are engineered so that they are attached with 8 stainless screws. No issue with tanks, lines, etc. Foot brackets are specifically designed to take into account the ridge on top of the rail. This makes for a good solid mount. Tubing is 2" and precision bent to match the seat form. They installed many sets at the NCM 10th anniv. this year in all body styles and they look terrific.

Well from what I can tell, most of the Seat Hoops that are available from the forum vendors are also designed to be screw or bolted in place.
The issue from what I can tell is that somewhere behind the mounting wall is the gas tank. Does anyone know how far away the gas tank is?? Are the vendors just being safe??
And, I agree, gluing of some sort is my last resort (but I am not going to drop my gas tank either).

Hi Steve, I passed on the glue method and screwed mine in! I used a short self tapping screw with a washer. I used only the four holes on the top portion to insure I didn't come in contact with the gas tanks. The hoops are very secure and look great with very little work!

Thanks for all the input. -Steven
If you ever get a chance to look at the C5 mockup you will see that the tanks do not go completely across the cross rail. If your hoops are designed properly, you will not have a problem with drilling. Most hoops are virtually 90 degrees to the rail and will mount within the tank area thus the need for epoxy. Matukas Motorsports hoops have a slight taper and mount beyond the tanks. Good Luck with your choice because they do look great. : flag:
