Default Need help with animals???

I am new here and I was looking for some help and sympathy!!!
In March 2004 I purchased my first vette, a 99 Magnetic Red Coupe. In May 2004 I hit an opossum which only dented the front license plate (luckily in nj it is required). In November I hit a deer which damaged the front bumper, side fender and headlight. One month and $4,000.00 later I hit a raccoon which cracked the same front bumper which was just replaced!!! I have been commutting to work on the same heavily wooded south jersey backroads for 11 years and never had a scratch!
Any ideas how to make ammends with the wildlife?

I feel for you - I have the same problem on my commute. I frequently have to dodge deer, squirrels, rabbits, etc. Once a huge owl was sitting in the middle of the road. A few weeks ago, I nearly had a head-on with a cow that had gotten out and was walking in my lane. Another time I just barely missed a dead buck in the middle of the road someone had just creamed. It's the main reason I don't occassionally drive the vette to work. My Mustang GT is the sacrificial transport.

With Patches - find another vehicle to use as a daily driver. The other option is to find another route (one less heavily wooded).

I seriously doubt that the Vette is somehow encouraging these wayward beasts.

I think what happens (at least it is here in Arizona), as development by humans (housing, commercial, roads, etc) continues to displace animals from their natural habitat - there are bound to be more "Close Encounters of the Worst Kind".

You should take Patches advise, most animals do not care much about getting a good look at a Stang.

Damn Dude. Where to you live? In a zoo? You do now realize that your name has been put on the SPCA watch list.
At least you'll never go hungry eating all the road kill. That's a staple here in Kentucky.

I would have to agree, you may need to find another vehicle for a daily driver. As low as the Vette sits, it doesn't take much to do some damage if you hit something laying in the road.

I spent the last 11 years in a 93 Mustang GT and then a 98 Camaro Z28- all the time wishing I had a vette. Now that I have one, I enjoy driving it so much that I never drive my wife's car (Chevy Surburban for the Family Bus). I never believed in the Deer whistles but I may now check them out. Thanks for cheering me up! At least the auto body shop guy is happy!

You may need a new bodyshop.
I hit a piece of plywood kicked up by an F350 pickup and cracked the facia near the parking lite.

I know what you mean. I leave in Hunterdon County and the damn deer are nothing more than pets running around. My vert isn't my daily driver......but every time I get in and ride the first few miles on the backroads, you better believe I'm slow and looking......good luck. Let us know if those deer whistles work out.

re: mrgil
I just changed my Avitar, that was from the deer- understand also that this was covered by insurance and the body shop dealt directly with the insurance company. All I had was the $500 deductible. I think I may pass on claiming the Racoon damage which will be around $600 but that is to get a new bumper instead of attempting to repair. Am I making a mistake in just replacing the bumper? It came out near perfect just under a month ago!!!

The new facia was about $700 and change... the insurance co balked at replacing it so I let the Dealer fix it and got a lifetime guarantee on the repair. My comprehensive deductible was $300.
Turned out real nice can't tell except for the new paint its perfect.

My insurance co. worked it out with the shop and paid for it, I was ok with that, now second time around I think I am just going to pay in fear of rate hike or being dropped...

Maybe you need someone to ride "SHOTGUN" then you could defend your ride to the max. Just blow them suckers right off the road.

Never really knew what riding "SHOTGUN" really meant until now! I am thinking more along the lines of in-dash sonar and infra-red coupe-top rocket launchers.
