500 hp and beyond
For those lucky individuals with 500hp and more,(no N2O please), could you please tell me just how you enjoy this power on the street, (no racing, drag strip stories). I'm no angel to the pull from the dark side to stomp the livin @#!* out of someone, but just curious if anyone can convince me to go for the hp other than to just say you have it if you need it.
It's very simple, everytime you hit the gas it's a reminder of what it's all about
I'm sitting at 449 at the wheels which should put me just over 500 at the fly. My next set of mods should put me between 470-485 at the rear wheels by having the compression switched to 12:1 still on pumped gas. I know of many who are putting dn 525rwhp and with the proper tire selection they are enjoying it. I talked with Chris at ECS and he said anything over 550hp on the street is a bit much. All you do is spin your wheels. Tire size and brand is the key to getting the power to the pavement.

Though my appt. isn't for 3 more days (oh yeah, I'm counting...lol) to have my sc installed, I went through the same dilemma.
Do I really need to spend a good chunk of change for what? The few times I may want to blow the doors off some mustang? I mean, I know I won't go to the track (at least not on a regular basis) so why the extra HP? The speed limit is 65 so where am I going with extra HP?... and on top of it all, I rebuilt my engine in my S10 which will be a 700+ HP motor so why spend the money one my daily drivin' vette?
I guess I just like the "feel" of having the HP there.. the torque, the just in case I want to show out... I dunno, perhaps it's immature, wasteful and unneccessary but if I was THAT practical, well, I wouldn't own a vette (not with a g/f and 2 kids)
My goal was to have extra HP on tap for fun driving. I love to drive the vette and think the money stuffed into a sc will make it even more fun... (as long as it's reliable and tuneable)
So go ahead, do the right thing. GET HP.

EDIT: PS. yeah, I realize that just the sc isn't going to be 500 HP like you mentioned but you didn't say at the rear wheels or not...

We have a C5R-427 in our vert with ~485 RWHP & 515 RWTQ. With run-flats, it was very difficult to use it under 50 MPH; however, now we are running Nitto Road Race Tires (285/35 ZR18 & 305/35 ZR18) & on the street the car is awesome.
One of my favorite things is smokin the tires in the first 4 gears and never getting above 50mph, if I want. Especially when ricers & stangs pull up beside me and want to challenge. Love to look back and see thier eyes bulging as I give them a quick lesson on being a little more selective on who they hook up with.

I am dying to drive mine. I will let you know. I should be between 650-700rwhp. Totaly useless HP on the street but wont trade it for anything at this point. Knowing you can white smoke them upto 120 is going to be a blast.

With my setup (waiting for a better tune and dyno) I'm estimating 550 bhp - so roughly 470rwhp. ATI Procharger etc. No headers or high stall TC yet - that's next.
It completely overpowers the stock GY RF big time (with an A4, stock TC and 2.73:1 gears) and the car can be uncontrollable under 80mph if you go WOT injudiciously.
So why?
Because I can and because this is a totally impractical car and I want to make it even more impractical. It is not my DD - it's a toy. And what do you do with toys? You play with them.
That's why.
Besides, if you are moderate with the throttle it runs like stock (just louder
) and I can cruise all day at very low speed with no issues,
So go for it!!!

My 70 Chevelle SS currently sits at 14:58.1.

Get HP to show that you can do it because "you can"!!!!
It's just how you feel. Do you remember driving other car and how it response compare to Vette? More HP will give you the same feeling.
