C5 seat difference.
I'm looking to put C5 seats in my C3.
I know it can be done, but does anyone know the difference between the sport seats and the reg C5 seats?
If they're power seats can they be installed as manual? I don't really need the adjustability, but would probably position the drivers seat as far back as possible for me. Elec adjustability wouldn't matter.
Well, if you don't care for the adjustability, then just set it once and don't hook up the power. The sport seats have all the electrical adjustments and the harness pass-thru. If you don't care for the harness pass-thru, then get the standard seats. You can also get the Ford harness cutouts and install those in standard seats. I think they're something like $35, and there's no difference in the foam for seat frame, just the leather, so it's easy if you can handle getting them sewn in.
speaking of seats, i have a 2000 convertible with the regular tan seats on the magnetic red car. the drivers seat is killing my back, does anyone know whether the sport seats are more comfortable. anybody know how much a pair of seats would cost? tks. in advance. greg
Can't compare them for you, but I have a couple experiences I can share.
I have a Honda CRX Si. The seats are supposed to have been designed by Recaro, and many people have said they're the some of the most comfortable seats they've seen in any car. I've taken my CRX on many 300, 700 and 900 trips. Every time my lower back hurts like crazy.
I have my C5 with sport seats. I've driven it to and from Abq, NM to Biloxi, MS in trips that lasted 21-23 from the time I left home till the time I got to my destination. I've also gone Tuscon, AZ a couple times in my Vette. I set the lumber to a medium setting, I pull in the side bolsters as far as they'll go, and I sit in an upright position where my wrist can rest comfortably on top of the steering wheel with natural arm extension. Everytime I was perfectly comfortable. My only complain was my right foot was a little sore from how I rested my foot on the floorboards. Now I have non-adjustable Sparco Evo racing buckets with harnesses, and I've taken that to San Diego without any soreness...sweaty from the harness, but not sore. I suspect the support of the harness may help keep weight off my lower back, so I can't really say the seat by itself is all that comfortable.
If you're willing to do some handy work, you can install standalone inflatable lumber pads and the harness pass-thru's.
If anyone is interested I'm selling a set of light pewter sport seats. Passenger seat is in perfect condition, driver's seat has slight bolster wear. Everything is in full working order on the seats. Email me for pics
on a side note...being the mustang fan that I am, I have to ask..the white 5.0 that is in the background of your video -- is it yours and if so..got anything done to it?
You can put the sport seats on standard rails...and keep the lumbar and bolster controls active. Those are the main differences (plus cosmetic) in the sport and std. seats...

Yeah, that's my usual DD. '91 GT 5.0, just shorty headers and Flowmaster exhaust.
