Default Key Fob Dead?

Went from Orlando to Jax this morning, about a 2 hour drive. Got there and parked the car, the key fob would not lock the car as I walked away. Went back closer and it locked. I figured it was a weak battery. When I was ready to leave I had to get right next to the drivers door for it to unlock and it would only unlock the drivers door. Then nothing. I went this afternoon and bought a new battery. Installed it, nothing. Held the lock and unlock buttons for 10 seconds or so per the owners manual. Nothing. Went through options on the DIC to retrain the fob per the manual. Nothing. I would test another fob, but the car only came with one. Is the fob dead or am I missing something? What else could it be?

Sounds like it is most likely the battery in the fob. Replace it and hopefully it will solve your problem with the car.

Bought a new battery and installed it in the fob, didn't work. I put a meter on the battery and it only was putting out around 2 volts. Went tonight and bought another battery, tested it and it was putting out 3.2 volts. It still does not work. I am lost.

These remotes can be very frustrating.
You can try everything under the sun and they still don't work.
Majority of the time purchasing a new remote will do the trick.
In the meantime hold the remote against your neck and press the button and see if that helps.

Make sure all the doors/hatchs are securely shut, too. If one isn't the door won't lock.

Neck didn't work. All the doors were closed. I hope it is the fob, not something in the car.

Did you re-sync the fob once you replaced the battery? It may have lost it's training when you popped out the battery. I had to re-train my second fob when I replaced the battery.

"Try to resynchronize the transmitter by pressing and holding the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons for seven seconds when standing next to the vehicle." This will attempt to resynchronize the security code in your RFA key fob transmitter.

When resynchronization is achieved the horn will chirp. If attempts to resynchronize your transmitter to the vehicle are not successful, you may need to match the transmitter to the vehicle.

To match the transmitter to your vehicle:

1. Turn the ingnition key to the ON position
2. Clear any warning messages on the Driver Information Center (DIC) by pressing the RESET button.
3. Press the OPTIONS button on the DIC several times until the blank page is displayed, then press and hold the RESET button for two seconds.
4. When the message FOB TRAINING is displayed, push the RESET button once. The message HOLD LK+UNLK 1ST FOB will be displayed.

5. Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter simultaneously for 15 seconds.

6. When a transmitter is learned, the DIC will display FOB LEARNED and then prompt you to learn the next transmitter.

7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for each additional transmitter.

8. Remove the key from the ignition.

The programmer mode will shut off if:

You don't program any transmitters for two minutes.
You take the key out of the ignition.
You have programmed three transmitters.

Hope this helps.

Paul

Tried this several times. Does nothing when I tried to re-sync. Does nothing in learning mode. It never progresses past it telling me that "press lock/unlock" button message. I held the buttons down for like a minute and a half. I need to get another fob to see if it is the fob or something in the car.

Thanks all!

Do one more simple check and please don't take this personal but check to make sure the remote battery is installed properly and also check the battery contacts.

Re-installed several times. Also cleaned all contacts. Still dead. Good advice though, we sometimes overlook the obvious in our fits of frustration.

It sounds like it's time for a new key FOB if you're tried all the above.

Just went and got a fob from a friend. New one works like a champ. Old one in the trash.
