If the job is done correctly nobody will be able to tell that the car has been repainted.
Just my opinion...I have painted many of my cars and changed color on a few....never hurt the resale as long it was a quality job
That I do agree with...but I guess as a buyer, one of the first questions I always ask is if it's had any paint or bodywork done..and if it has, it's an immediate turn-off.
If the seller lies, it's fraud.
Everyone who's done paint and bodywork will claim "no one will ever be able to tell"..but honestly, I've yet to see that.
Maybe not all car shoppers are wise enough to ask that question, and the only way I'd buy a repainted car (like in this example), is if I personally knew this history of the car, and knew who did the work. Otherwise, I ain't interested.
Not trying to be argumentative, just looking at it from a buyer's perspective.
This is BS...the C5 never has been and never will be a collector.....none of them not even the 50th AE.
If the job is done correctly it will not add or take away from the value of the car
I never said that it was a collector car, what I said was that it kills any value that it has for any kind of resale!
Besides, who the hell cares what you wear? It's not like you and the car have to match.
That's funny cause when I happen to being wearing a bright blue sweatshirt, I feel stupid cause I'm thinking people are thinking I WAS trying to match my car...lol.

A 'black' kinda guy, eh? Hmmm...Where I'm from, you are either "Black" or you are not. ''
Why not just go and BUY your OWN black car instead of the yellow one you don't really want? Not a bad idea to show your father-in-law that you can do things on your own and stand up for yourself.
BTW, Since you brought it up...wanna clarify what you are?
Yellow is a great color and a little hard to find. If you really don't like it that much, sell it and by a different one in black. I don't believe in painting a newer model Corvette in another stock color when C5 s are bought and sold used everyday.
lol, I'll say it again, just in case you guys missed it (cause it seems that way)
WHEN I paint the car, it will be a custom paint job, meaning not just black. Just a black paintjob was the original plan, but if you read through the thread, you'll see I changed my mind on it I figure if I'm going to spend that much money, I may as well just get my custom job done :P
Now it is true that the custom paint job will have very little, if any, yellow in it, but those're just the breaks and I'll have at least a year or two of time with the yellow before then anyhow
Obviously, it's your money, to do with as you will. But the fact that you posted this thread means you would like some advice. It sounds like a waste of money on a perfectly good c5, save your money for insurance or get the 'mod' bug like me!
I'm not a smart-***, but here's an honest and practical opinion: since you're not in love with 'Dad's' car yet, just make a trade for one you like. Believe me, if you trade for any C5, you'll love it (I'm on my second). Especially if your trade has less mileage, a color you love and whatever. There's thousands of lovely C5s, so I wouldn't mess with the potential heartbreak of a paint-job. Be Brave, my Chiefs!

I have a black coupe, but honestly, somedays I wish I had a yellow C5. Yellow car and black wheels with polished lip is fast becoming my favorite color combo for just about any model car. Give yellow a chance to grow on you, it's a great color.
Ok, so it looks like I'm going to buy my Fiance's dad's C5. That's great, no problem. It's been in my possession for weeks anyhow while he's moving to the other coast. I've driven it. It's in perfect condition, next to no miles, all that goodness, so I have no problem buying it. My only issue is, it's yellow. I dont like yellow. I mean, I wont die, but I want to have a black car.
So what am I looking at, price-wise, for a high-quality paint job on a C5 coupe? I cant say I've ever had a car repainted before, so this is a new one on me.
Thanks for all the help guys, you've been great.

I have an '04 Torch Red vert......I also a 1995 Competition Yellow vert...I spend nights not being able to sleep deciding which one I like best ....I get a lot of compliments on both and a lot of this on both colors:..."what the he77 did you get a color like that for?"..."You just need attention, right?"..."why didn't you just get a "normal" color?...and I just smile and say to myself...."fork you azzhole"...
Yellow is beautiful baby....
In 2000 when they came out with Millineum Yellow I hated it. I couldn't believe they painted a Corvette like that. In 2001 I bought my first Vette, a 96 Collector Edition, Sebring Silver of course( I am a bit conservative). I kept it until this year when I came down with a case of Corvette convertible fever. By this time I had fallen in love with the yellow and did a search on the forum and located the exact M.Y. convertible with 6 speed, black top and interior, low miles, showroom condition. My wife and I flew from the Gulf Coast to Philly, Pa. to buy the car from an individual and we drove it back home 1280 miles.
Stick with the yellow and it will grow on you!!!
If the yellow is so bad why have all the other car companies come out with their own versions of yellow? I can't understand why he is having a hard time selling it unless he is asking too much. Often times I have seen people here on the forum searching for a yellow one like I did.
Yea, you are looking at some serious cash to get it totally repainted and a quality job. I think I would learn to like yellow, at least until it really does need a new paint job.
Learn to like it.. At least you'll get noticed and when comes time to sell, won't have to explain the new paint job.. Don't know if I'd buy a repainted vette - too much chance that it might have been wrecked....
I have a '98 Torch Red C5 with less than 20K on it. I love the car, but it has a a few rock chips and scuffs that I absolutely hate to look at after I've washed it. Waxing and buffing makes them go away for a while, and I've used touch up paint on the worst ones.
5-10 grand is out of the question. Not worth the money. The car still looks great...but...
Is there anything that can be done outside of repainting it entirely?
