I would use a product compatible with whatever you painted the covers with. If you use the wrong type, it could lift (bubble up) the existing paint.
If you used spray cans, look for a clear in cans of the same brand/type as the paint you used.
If you used a professional automotive type finish, then use the compatible/recommended clearcoat for the paint system you used.

Mixing paints or types is not a good thing. Stick with what you have used.
