Not even GM knows, yet. It may have something to do with the alternator. I've had the same problem, like others, for over a year. Let me guess, 'Charge System Fault' flashes on your DIC & there are no apparent drivealbilty or starting problems.
That happened to me when the car was brand new. It happened once after I set the alarm off to see if it worked. I wouldn't worry about it unless it keeps happening and then I'd take it in. Unless others have more insight.
just watch your guague, but most likely it will mean there's a loose ground somewhere on the car...I used to get those and it turned out my starter was barely loose.
As I understand it the warning comes up if the voltage drops below some preset level, for any reason. I had it happen 3 times on my Z06. Just after the third time my Z decided to not start for about an hour. Then it was OK after that for a month (After which I sold it so I don't know what happened later). If it happens often, you'd better look into it. Once or twice is not a big problem...
I have a 02 Coupe that has done this since day 1 . Sometimes I get the message once a week, other times it will be a month or 2 before the message comes back.
It has been to the dealers several times for this message . They have replaced the alternator twice , the battery and the ignition , but still this message appears.
I had my Z06 in the shop last week and complained about this same thing. The mechanic told me that the message is because the alternator lags behind the sensor when starting the car. In other words, sometimes the sensors looks to see if the alternator is charging a split second before the alternator begins charging, so the sensor thinks something is wrong with the alternator. As stated in some of the earlier posts, IF this is the case, then you have nothing to worry about.
