Default two choices on tires

I've decided to buy non-runflats for my 98 vert replacing the goodyear emt's

I am either going to buy

Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's $ 928

or Kumho Ecsta -asx $ 506

When you compare them on tirerack they seem about the same is it worth over $ 400 to have the name Goodyear writen on the side or is there other reasons.

I live in Wisconsin and I do not drive my vette in the snow(or winter) but it could happen I guess, a very small chance and it says the Goodyears can't go on snow. I had Kumho's on my 92 vette. They where on it when I bought it and only kept for 3000 miles so I did not draw an opinion on them. Please let me know which ones you would choose.

Thanks!

Default I am cheap

Pesonally if I were just buying tires for normal driving I would go for the less expensive tires. By the way did you check out the Sumitomos, i almost bought these the last time I bought tires, I think all four would have been 640 shipped for my vette. I believe the sizes were 285s and 255s, I actually had these ordered and then found some Pirellis knocked down to about half price so I changed my order. I found these on tirerack.com. If you are interested in the Sumitomos let me know and I will look up the exact size and model for you but I remember it was a heck of a deal.

I agree, I love my Kumho's and I love the price. Just because I drive a Vette doesn't mean I'm rich.

I'd compare the GS-D3 to the MX instead of the ASX. ASX is all season, MX is more summer tires. And since you will not be driving the car on snow, the GS-D3/MX would suit your need better.

Tire category aside, the GS-D3 still win over the MX, aside from price. Goodyear has been doing something right about GS-D3. It's quiet, long wearing and it has tons of grip, especially in the rain. There is ~$300 price difference between the MX and the GS-D3.

Your pick

Lot of people like the Kumho's. If all the ratings are the same (traction, wear, etc), then the cheaper tires may be the way to go.

Never had Kumho's but I can attest that the Goodyear tires are fantastic on dry and rain, including torrential rain falls. Also quiet and wear very well.

Or should I just buy a set of slightly used 04 thin spoke polished rims with slightly used run flats with 10k miles on them for $ 1,000 - $ 1,200 range. I now have run flats with magnesium rims that kind of matches the car since it is black with an oak top and int.

Default Tires

I like the Kumhos....check wear rating, though.

My Goodyears on my 01 got very noisy and the Kumhos are much quieter....also cheaper....

Perhaps the new Goodyears are better than the OEM tires.....

People seem to forget that there are Runflats and non runflats....the runflats are way more expensive and are generally noisier...when I needed tires a few months ago I wanted the Kumho Runflats which are half the price of the GYears Firestones, etc...I guess they were so popular with Vette owners that they had been on backorder for months and nobody even knows when they will ever ship again.....me, I don't want to end up like Chevy Chase in the Lampoon Vacation getting off the freeway with a non-runflat flat...

According to three different Tire Rack reps, the Goodyear GSD3s are in a different class (higher), compared to the Khumos. I took their advice and couldn't be happier. The GSD3s are quiet, smooth-riding and handle better than any tire I've driven on before. The icing on the cake, of course, is to see that "Made in USA" on the sidewall.
