Poll timed out before I could post it, will repost. Sorry!
Read all about the column lock issue, am a new '04 owner, looking for some statistics since the folks without problems generally don't talk about it. Is there a silent majority out there? Recent posts indicate that if the recall was done the $50 column lock bypass (CLB) won't help because of the no fuel issue. I checked and there is no recall posted against my car (yet?), built in May '04. I am concerned that the work was done in production or pre-delivery. Seems like a lot of posts had problems for the first time after the recall was done. Have not bought the CLB, have not had a problem. So I am looking for some more details...
PLEASE DO NOT POST IN THIS THREAD< POST IN THE OTHER ONE <THE REAL COUMN LOCK POLL>

had the cloumn lock on my 2000 coupe the day after my warrenty ran out. the dealer did however fix it at no charge. my '04 z06 went in under the recall, but i understand gm is just doing a band aid fix to solve the problem.

I would think that the CLB will still be effective regardless, since the device is providig an uninterupted signal telling the computer that the ignition is on therefore never triggering the column lock mechanism. The fuel will never be cut off since the CLB will always keep the steering wheel from locking. I guess that there is a remote possibility that if the battery is disconnected or dies, then the column can lock and possibly not unlock when power is restored, causing the fuel to be cut off.

Not the case with my car...I installed the CLB after having it fixed the first time via the recall, just tonight, I got the service column lock msg, car shuts off at 1mph... But I can turn the wheel though
I wonder if part of the GM recall BCM reflash is to defeat the aftermarket CLB's? It sems that people like the last poster are having problems with CLB's after the recall has been done.
