I was just wondering who here has never had a fast car or a race car before they bought their Z? I see a lot of questions being asked that makes me think there are a lot of people here, that for them, this is their first "race car."
The Z is the fastest car I've owned so far... I had two vettes prior though.
My first one, a 1990, was my "learning experience" car. Enough torque down low to throw a few surprises at me and I learned how easy it is to get sideways.
My '93 was faster, but also my first manual tranny vette. Doesn't compare to the Z in terms of power but it was still plenty fast enough to be entertaining.
The Z06 is a whole new level... the other two were sports cars, the Z is a race car all around.
My first fast car was a two year old highly modified 1967 Camaro RS, 327 4 speed, 13:1 compression, 4.88 gears, and all the usual go fast mods. Second fast car was a 1980 Mustang TRX, again built up pretty srtong. 3rd REALLY fast car was my 1997 TransAM, make over 850 RWHP and nearly 900 RWTQ.
That said the Z06 is the best fast car I have ever owned, and of course I could not leave it stock either

We have had some cars in common - I too owned a 73 Nova 350 SS 4 barrel etc., even with bolt-on's though I wouldn't call that car quick - emissions ruined 73-76 model years IMHO - it was what, 175HP at the flywheel!!

Seriously, as an actual car, I've never had anything close to this before. I had some quick cars, but nothing like this. I've actually never been in a car as fast as this one. I've been in some old muscle cars that had a lot of drama, but they weren't as fast as the Z.
'87 Formula 350 5 spd wrapped it around a tree in Binghamton after hitting black ice on Vestal Parkway
'89 Formula 350 5 spd - sold it to buy a '96 Blazer LT which was the beginning of my "truck phase".
Now I'm lucky enough to have a "truck" ('04 X5 4.4IS) and a Z16.
(oh, and my wallet is pretty empty at the end of each month too! )
I havent had it at a track cuz i just got it and its winter but my bolt on Z is def a bit quicker than my WS6 w/100 shot based on running it agianst a couple cars i ran before. unless those cars got slower somehow lol

I replaced the stock motor with a 350HP motor, munice four speed, headers etc... It was quick for the street.
There is a big difference between quick and fast IMHO

jeremys ta had all the bolt on's and a cam with a nx kit. we never got the shift points worked out on the 100 shot the 1 time we went to the track and sprayed it. but it was a 120 plus mph car on the street on the shot.
my trans am on the shot would have crushed the z, but i would still rather have the vette!
When I think FAST, I have to include the FUN factor. I sold my '72 coupe with 454ci and 4-spd to fund my '03 Z two months ago. It was a hoot to autocross - not as fast as the Z, but a lot more fun in 4-wheel drifts. Drag races at 5500' altitude near Denver? My best with the '72 was 14.2 with gears that wanted me to shift from 3rd to 4th just at the end of the quarter. I am told that a stock Z will run 13.7 here, so I'm surprised that my '72 was only a half second off. Comments from anyone up here who has raced? Anybody know where I can hook up to get some road course track time?
My '99 Carrera and 2002 BMW M3 were quick but the Z06 is fast....much more fun except for the damn 6 speed. I like a five speed so you can ream that baby out in first gear without worrying about shut down. Then you can shift by ear!
1st car: 91 Nissan NX 1600 - Woohoo! Watch out for 140hp! hahaha
2nd car: 98 Mustang GT - Peppy little 14 second ride. Good car for me coming right out of college. Introduced me in a way to muscle car world and converted my into a car enthusiasts.
3rd car: 98 Corvette coupe - Very quick 13 second ride with some nice mods. Automatic tranny got boring though. 2.73's didn't help either.
Last week: 2001 Z06 - Amazing car....tons of power and very easy to drive even in rush hour commute. Great daily driver but also ready to unleash hell!

We must have grown up in a parallel universe. My first fast car was a '67 RS like yours. Next car was a 'Stang 1988 GT with a few mods. My Z is the fastest and sweetest looking yet. Oh yeah, I'm 45 this year.
The only other fast car I had before this was a RX-7. I think it was a 1984 RX-7. LOL, had it in high school back in the day. Boy I thought that car was hot!
Other then that the only fix I got for speed was sport bikes. I use to own a Honda CBR 600 F4i and a Honda CBR 954RR. I wrecked the first one and sold the 954 because I never drove it any more because of the Z.
