Did a search and found several old threads without current sizes. I have just ordered a brand new set of factory chromed Z06 wheels so I will have my stock wheels that I would like to mount DR's on the rear for 1/4 track purposes only.
Looking at the Goodyear Supercar, Nitto and BF Goodrich tire specs I find the following:
It appears there are 2 different BFG g force T/A thread types, but I could only get the specs on one of them in the website.
I have several questions:
First of all can the 17 Stock front Z06 wheel be mounted on the rear of an 04 Z06?
It appears that all the above tires are very close in width and overal diameter, and looking at the specs, I would lean towards the Nitto 555 305/35/18 which is about 1.2% larger diameter than the stock tire. The 285/35/18 Nitto is just a little smaller in diameter, but also in width, so my thought was go with the wider Nitto for more surface area contact.
Can I have some info on what sizes you guys are running or have run and also some opinions on whether the Nitto or BFG has better traction for track purposes only? With the Nitto 305 I can get more rubber on the ground, but maybe the rubber compound of the Nitto is not as sticky as the BFG at the track.
Obviously the BFG is only applicable if I can fit the front tire on the rear.
I run Nitto 555 DR's 305/35/18, but just so you know BFG does make a 315/17 Tire.
I understand, The BFG's Hook really well , But the Nitto's Handle MUCH Better!!!
If you want the best traction at the drag strip, go for the 315.35.17 BFGs. I have a pair mounted on CCW 12" wide wheels. They produce low 1.7X 60' and some occasional 1.6X.
And yes you can run any of the 17s on Z06 front wheels. PowerShifter ran the BFG 315s on 17" Z06 fronts and got some occasional low 1.6X 60'.
Another alternative for the Spring is the Mickey Thompson ET Street RADIALS that started shipping in November but currently are in very short supply. I have a pair mounted on Z06 fronts and have produced about 50% 1.6X 60 foots and 50% 1.7X.
Most people find that it takes 20-40 passes to really learn a new drag tire. So don't expect immediate magic.
This summer, I purchased a pair BFG g-force t/a drag radials,
size 315-30-18 and mounted them on stock 18" rears, they work great and look awesome! I believe the diameter is the same as the stock FI tire, 25.6"
Pricey set-up, about $1,000.00

I have a pair of BFG 315/35/17's & after about 12 passes I have a best 60' of 1.68. I think I could get a high 1.5 after some more passes to learn the launch. Like was mentioned above, it takes time to learn a launch on new DR's or slicks.

After looking back at the BFG specs and finding sizes under both tread patterns and reading everyones feedback, I think I have decided on going with the 315/30/18's. I just received a brand new set of factory wheels that were chromed, so now I'll use my non chrome wheel and will buy the DR's and switch out for track nights only. Through Discount Tire online they have them for $227 ea., if I buy at their store they are like $246 each.
Z06bob: FYI, the diameter of the BFG is 25.6, the stock tire is 26.1.
I normally run low 1.7 s on Nitto DRs. (305/35/18) Best 60' 1.678. But I wouldn't waste my time on these since your not looking for a daily- driver/track combo. I would use the new Micky Thompson ET streets on the 17" wheels.
