Has anyone else had a problem with the passenger side seatbelt? I have a 2000 coupe and I took a friend to lunch yesterday,(and let's say he's kind of large) and the seatbelt wouldn't extend far enough to latch. He just held it close around him and not wanting to embarras him, I said I was having a problem with it. Is my seatbelt messed up or do I just have to find smaller friends?
My dad has had the same problem when driving my car. He asked the dealership about it and they promptly sold him an extender. This item looks like an 8" piece of seat belt with a buckle on one end and a flat metal piece on the other. All it basically does is effectively move the buckle 8" closer to the outside of the car. If your friend will be riding regularly, I would say invest in the part. I think it was like $30-$40

Hmm . . . I thought I'd heard that those extenders were supposed to be free. Others here have had the dealerships give them an extender because it's a safety issue mandated by the federal government. Perhaps it dpends on the state or dealership you deal with.
Seat Belt Extenders are free. At least when I asked the dealer during service he left two on my front floor mat. They only come in black as far as my dealer knows but for FREE who cares. Now I have modded my vette to the max.

If the vehicle's safety belt will fasten around you, you should wear it.
But, if a safety belt isn't long enough to fasten, your dealer will order you an extender. It's free. When you go in to order it, take the heaviest coat you will wear, so the extender will be long enough for you. The extender will be just for you and just for the seat in your vehicle that you choose. Don't let someone else use it, and use it only for the seat it is made to fit. To wear it, just attach it to the regular safety belt."

Great info! A friend of mine is expecting a baby in March.....this will come in handy!!
Even if you aren't extra large, they are really nice because you don't have to "dig" down on the inside of the seat to buckle the belt. You simply leave the 8" extender buckled, and it sticks up so it is easier to buckle.

They should supply it. Worth asking!! Merry Christmas!!
